75th D-Day Anniversary June 1st-8th 2019

I'm in chalet 209, (Tundra green R1100RT) trying to meet everyone but lot of bikes here.

Safely arrived after a surprisingly dry ride up from Chinon via the excellent tank museum in Saumur :thumby:

I just hope the weather doesn’t affect the Dak’s parachute drop tomorrow at Sannerville :nenau

Just back from a fantastic week in Normandy for the 75th D-Day commemoration, what a great week, loads going on, great atmosphere, come away wanting to buy a WW2 era motorcycle :D

60 plus on site, tried to meet everyone, sorry to those I missed, weather good overall with a bit of rain towards the end,

Daks over Normandy parachute drop was good if late, but the visit to see the Dakota's at Caen Airfield was a bit of a disaster being poorly organised, OK once you got in

Loads of Pics on my flickr site here ; https://www.flickr.com/photos/65081372@N04/albums/72157708884094526

Thanks for all who attended:thumb

Got to the drop zone at 11.00 hrs on the 5th. Twas a long wait but worth it (about 18.30).

In the foreground are the Red Devils who dropped in just before the main Para group arrived.
It was great to see the old boy who jumped for the second time since 1944.
He is 95 years young who jumped tandem with a team member. Well done sir.:thumb2

Some more photos of the recent D-Day 75th Anniversary organised by Mark Handley. Most of his motocycle group stayed in a campsite at St Aubin-sur-Mer where we had stayed on two previous D-Day Celebration Dates. Mixed weather throughout the week didn't dampen the great atmosphere and enjoyment of the many people taking part in various activities. The highlight for me was the parachute drop at Sanneville (location of the 1944 drop zone) and the display of Dakotas at Caen Airport. Very unlikely to see so many Dakotas flying and dropping parachutist again. I left on the Monday and had a very wet ride home to Colchester!
