The 2018 tour is underway. I was pretty impressed with the Thomas Cook Airlines Premium Class flight

Hertz screwed up and double booked the Corvette Stingray convertible I’d booked, but the 6.4 litre Dodge Challenger RT Scat Pack I took instead is very fast from the lights with 485bhp. The missus wasn’t impressed as she really wanted a convertible, but I think I’m one of the Dukes of Hazard

After an expensive night in Santa Monica, we had breakfast in the Rock Store on Mulholland Driveway, but didn’t see Jay Leto or any other celebrities

After breakfast, we continued up the Mulholland Driveway and then the fabulous CA Route 33

Make sure you get into Kings Canyon Sven.

Very sloooow internet connection in Three Rivers and Stovepipe Wells the past couple of days, but we’re now in Zion for a couple of nights with a fast connection, so photos to follow.

Kings Canyon and Sequoia were stunning, but the Great Western Divide Highway in the south of the Sequoia Forest was even better (if that’s possible)

How are you getting on with the car, Sven?

Once I got past the size of it and the plasticky interior, it handles pretty well and it’s very quick, especially in sport mode. It drinks juice uphill though and it nearly ran out in the mountains the other day and had to freewheel 11 miles back to a filling station in the Sequoia National Forest the other day. I’m now filling up when there’s an opportunity once the range gets down to 100 miles or so

Sequoia National Park is a long, twisty climb into the Sierras from Three Rivers, but the road and views are fabulous. It was a too bit hazy for decent photos at first.

The trees were stunning, although there were quite a few folk from the southern formally Confederate States whinging about them being named after Union generals (it’s 2018, not 1865...)

Good ol' General Sherman. Long time since I was there.....

The descent into Kings Canyon was one of the best roads I’ve ever driven/ridden - thanks to Bilco for the advice - the photos don’t do it justice

The back road back to Three Rivers was ridiculously twisty, so much so that I nearly had to stop as I was slightly hungover and got motion sickness. I thought I was going to puke. It’s only the second time I’ve thought a road was too twisty for too long

It looks great. I hope you’re lighting it up regularly, as that’s what hire cars are for! :green gri
