But it relies on a smartphone app.

Smartphone apps can be useful, but whenever they have to communicate with another external device they fail.

I'll bet a pound to a pinch of shit it doesn't do what it claims it will do.

.........

Of course the design is sooooo cool as well

Yup :) Nice and unobtrusive and stops your bike looking like the battle star Galactica.

I don't need a sat nav to play music, enable me to hear Amanda nagging me to slow down or tell me my altitude and remaining fuel bollox, blah, blah, blah.............. I just want to know if I need to turn left or right :thumb2
Looking at it, multiple lane junctions ( such as the M way out of Bilbao for example) might be tricky unless they have sussed a clever way of doing that but even if not that's a small price to pay for all the positives of such a small and handy device.

That's just you :D

To be fair all this is doing is pairing a phone to a device, something I do in lots of ways with my phone with no issues. It's only when trying to link more functions such as intercom, music a TFT screen thing and a phone that it seems to get tricky.

I've got a little list, just from the past few days:

Range Rover Remote - "The vehicle is in use" (no it isn't, I'm standing next to it in the car park).
Behringer PA speakers - have to restart the phone every time I use them.
Yale Smartlock - "Connexis lock not registered"
KTM dash - don't even get me started.
B&W headphones - never pairs the first time, always pairs the second.
Freecom 4 - refuses to connect to KTM dash.

I fcucking hate bluetooth. A good idea poorly implemented. Also an excellent get-out for manufacturers who make shoody equipment and have a list of 'supported' bluetooth equipment.

The bluetooth standard is actually very good.

And when followed works very well,

What happens is oem's are not obligated to implement all of the relevant bluetooth standards,

So they pick and choose - features vs budget constraints etc.

or they impliment variants of the standard.

that way they get only there stuff to work with the implimentation they use.

That way they ensure only there product can be used , (at there prices)

A lot will depend on the mapping provider and the 3rd party routeing engine. It would also be interesting to hear what the bicycle version users think of the BT implementation

Will it be able to follow a GPX track and what happens if you go off route?

Your smartphone will also need powering and cooling due to the GPS demands

Looks good to me :thumby:

One of the very reasons I love, and still use, the original Garmin Quest. Small, unobtrusive ... and I love the compass pointing to my final destination, leaving me to pick whichever route I choose. Find some great roads and places this way :thumby:
