The bike has now been reduced to its constituent parts,
The suspected big end failure turned out to be loose flywheel rivets, and the motor is nice, not that it matters as it’s having the “works”
I’ll get some pics tomorrow

Can’t quite put my finger on it but the fairing doesn’t look right. Lots of work ahead to get that back to smart. I had a an ST in 1985, really nice bike but a bit cramped and under-powered two up.io

After a few weeks pondering.
Some of you may recall this bike.
Johnny boxer owned it,
Wreford still has it.
A while ago I did a bit of work on the bike ,and I must admit,I’ve got a bit of a crush on it:D

Top pic is when I owned it

Nice bike

So,,,,,,,
The plan,
Find someone to pay for it:D
No that slipped out:blast
The swingarm/ prop will be despatched to Richie Moore nxt week to be extended by 75mm
We’ve actually already rebuilt the gearbox as we were doing a batch.
The rear wheel is stripped and the rim is off for powder tommorrow.
I have a g/s tank for it,
I also have a g/s headlamp/clock binnacle.
A set of 690 Ktm forks are enroute.
I’m thinking of a sporty motor,1000 cc hi comp,or 1070,maybe get Richie to do heads etc etc

...I keep pondering going back to a smaller headlight unit. The twin Hellas on the bike are great but I rarely need them.

The original was next to useless.

Q Tec subframe is special

I wouldn't choose the 690 forks, the KYB WR450 F forks on the bike pictured are far better

This is true, however I’ve bought a nice set at the right price.
If someone wants to stuff my pockets with cash,I’ll fit works ohlins for them.
the 690 forks will be significantly better than what was fitted, and could easily be swapped for exc forks or anything else at a later date if the build spec changes

The issue with most modern forks is the triple clamps (yokes in English) which have a very small offest which reduces the steering anlge. Mine has ‘Prutser triples’ from Hyperpro designed for drz 49 mm Showa forks which are a really great improvement. I also have a 100mm extended swinging arm ( as per Wrefords bike) which makes the bike a little slow steering but great suspension travel. I really think the Showa forks and decent rear shock are the dogs. PS I also have a KTM 690 (crash bang wallop versus magic carpet).

PPS I also have a Sherco which has Paoli/Kayaba forks which are different from but in my opinion way better than the white power fitted to exc’s. You would need some decent triple to fit them to a G/S or ST.

One set of WP forks,
A trial fit in another frame suggests:
Close but ,no cigar:blast
It will need bespoke billet yokes, with greater offset to get more steering lock.
And plenty more faffing.
But hey!
I knew this prior to buying them:D
