Learning fast...........

I am preparing my HP2e for future adventures and while famalierising myself with the bike on the back roads I am getting some ‘flap’ at the bars.

I’ve tried ‘man up’ spray  but I still think it could all get a bit messy if I get over enthusiastic.

Would the “Tosser Hp2e riding Gods” recommend a steering damper? Any appropriate second hand ones for sale?

Thanks.

are you running the original springs and shock..? plus which tyres have you got.

WR front end and Wilber rear.

Full on knobblies but they are now shot.

I foresee trying to find some hoops that will be 20% ‘ish’..... bias for road use. I intend to ride to the local Moto X track and have some fun.

part of the fun was having to be on it to ride it, mine was on progressive front springs with heavier oil and a wilbers rally raid shock at the back. all of which really helped best of luck they are fun....

running knobblies most of the time sometimes on mooses

Cheers Lo-IQ.....also shopping for a larger pair of b*****ks :D so I can as you say “be on it”

It is just back from Vines Guildford where they lightened my wallet very well. To be fair it is now feeling tip-top, having had replacement head bearings, final drive rebuild, service etc etc. The old girl is a bit beaten up, but the previous owner had the foresight to stock pile new panels, seat, and spares, so eventually it can be made as good as new.

Anyway it will be a ‘keeper’ and I’m going to kit it out with some practical accessories so I can do some decent trips. In the mean time I’ll be going to a Welsh training school to learn some survival techniques.
I now understand why people keep them for so long. ....it is a pretty radical and fantastic machine.

This one has been recommended to me.

The main man seemed very nice and rides an Hp2e. He upgraded the front end on mine with a different front end and WP forks.

Would be great to organise a Tosser weekend perhaps.

I'd come and meet you.. 25 minutes away from me.

Is that 3 up for it.?......might be worth a Tosser collective coming together for an off road dirty weekend.

Ref lively front end,
A few years ago I built a g650 xchall. With replacement marzocchi shivers(factory iirc)
Hyper pro rear shock, the owner then rode to Holland to see baz and get it all set up as the owner complained of it weaving at higher speeds.
The basic info coming from Baz was that it was mostly rider induced,as when everything was working dynamically on the dirt,no weave ,on the road, suspension not really working it weaved.
A damper may well settle things down and stop it getting out of shape, but be cautious that your not masking a problem over.
At the end of the day,a bike with the correct geometry to absorb massive holes and bumps, fitted with knobblies is not very likely to handle high speed tarmac well, you will be on the gas a lot more so the front will go light,
I’m no expert but mebbs stiffen the rear a bit on the compression and soften the front and see what happens,it may improve things,or make it worse.
At least you will have a better idea how to progress
I’ve had bikes set up by mx specialists and have to make sure they understand I’m not racing, otherwise the would be way too firm.
Once they “get” your requirements you will only be a click or two away from just so.
