2003 1150GS Adventure rebuild

Cheers wreck diver I hear ya hoping to F**k I took enough pictures:D:D

Cheers Beak Freak I think your right about the wheels but to be honest I just removed them and parked them for the moment. I just wanted to get the bike down to the bare minimum. Our next job is to drill out the header studs which are literally welded in. we tried everything and now this the final solution hopefully.

Your bike,your shout,but,,,,
I’d seriously consider taking the heads to a good machine shop.
Once set up in a mill the job is a lot less likely to go tits up,and no one will thank you for turning up with a miss drilled mess.:D:thumby:

Cheers Mikeyboy
I have never taken the cylinder head off. I have taken the rocker cover off my other 1150 to do the valve clearance but that is far as I have had to go. From looking at the BMW manual I have, to remove the valve gear carrier is it a case of
Remove the cam chain sprocket cover, tie up sprocket,
Secure rockers with a band , undo the four bolts and away she comes ?

And for the cylinder head is it a case of remove the four bolts gently wiggle slide etc the head off taking care to not dislodge the cam sprocket to much.

Any other suggestions or advice is always welcome as every day is a learning day:D:D

Keep on trying!!! I like what you are doing to your bike!!! good job mate!!!! I am also planing to do that for my GS1100. Keep us posted

Great thread. I'd pay just to come into your garage and have a look. Where was the bike kept ? I've never seen such bad corrosion

It is really making me want to get hold of another r1150gs and do it up

Cheers Yamonda 1 Johnny boxer
Cheers Neil W go for it life is too short
Luke Scott no charge free tea/ coffee and biscuits drop down any time you're free. I'm not sure previous owner had it at the side of the house with a cover

Funny you should say that previous owner is listed as a bloke called Sponge Bob square pants:beer:

Ok folks little update all the fiddly pain in the ass jobs done. The four studs from the cylinder heads drilled out and the holes re tapped. The rear grab rail broken bolt removed and re tapped and the two bolts that sheared off in the swan's neck that held the crashbars were also drilled out and re tapped. As you can see the wheel chock on the bench has a multitude of uses.

Cheers
