Slow progress

Progress has been painfully slow. We got the alternator and starting motor checked over and all good., Still have the botch up on the wiring loom to sort. We got the beak, hand guards and spark plug covers finished ready for final 2k clear lacquer.

What paint are you using on the black plastics as they've come up lovely?

Is it aerosol cans?

Just when you think your finished

This is like painting the sitting room. Walls look great after prepping, priming, and painting then you look at the doors and skirting boards and realize they look shit and will have to be done as well. So sanded, etched, build primed, ready for three coats of black.

4 hrs yesterday with Hatcho and 4 hrs again this morning on my own good job I'm enjoying this

Hey Johnny boxer A
All the plastics were originally in shite quality and had faded and no amount of heat or chemicals etc were going to make them look good and given I am painting everything else it made sense to paint all the plastics as well. I initially gave the black plastics a coat of etch primer, build primer, a scratch coat and 2 light coats of black. Once the 2 coats of black are dry I keyed the surface very lightly and then give it 2 more light coats. The final stage is to lightly key again and apply two coats of 2k clear lacquer.

I was advised by my mate who is a sprayer to follow this procedure as 1k paint is made up of thinners and paint in the can and requires multiple light coats and and a good clear lacquer to seal / protect it. If I was doing it over again I would have got the black in 2k as I did for the swing arm rear drive etc as it just requires a scratch coat and two to three coats allowing for enough time for it to flash off between coats.

Cheers

I echo that! A wonderful job. Having done a similar restoration on an 80s Airhead I know The work that's involved! My problem now is that having put so much (not to mention money!) effort into the bike I couldn't bear to part with it. So I won't :D
