Barn find - 1994 Strada 1000 - recommissioning.......

Popped into my mates workshop.
He has suckled out the rear brake fluid.
And found ' chutney with added grit ' at the bottom of the reservoir. :(
So once I get it home onto my bike lift I will overhaul / replace as needed..

Now THAT I'd love to see :D

Andres

He has a machine that sucks.. :green gri

:D

Mate just rang I - rear brake pipe / hose from brake compensater to the rear caliper has a split in it.
So hopefully a new hose / pipe & flush through will have that sorted...

Well done Ash looks great.......have to say, I’m amazed it had points in 1994:eek: my 79 triumph came out of the factory with leccy ignition...... The Guzzi factory must have found some lying around so thought they’d use them up:rolleyes:

Looking forward to seeing this come together :thumb

Can you get those hoses made up rather than buying new parts?

Readily available from at least 3 good Guzzi spares supplier's.
Once it's off the bike, I can take the knackered one to my hydraulic / hose company in town for a quote..

Probably down to cost John.
Guzzi have been going / gone bust since time began.
And I spose points set up is cheaper for a small manufacturer.
When you think my bike was made in 1994 but not sold / registered until Aug 1996.
That's a fair amount of time to hold stock with no payment.
My convert was 3 yrs old b4 it got registered.
And I know 3X & Coburn & Hughes did UK only specials to move old stock back in there time as importers..

Frame has been degreased & pressure washed.
Handlebars back up to correct height & mirrors back on..
New brake pipe made, from rear brake reservoir to the brake acumalater.
As the old was blocked solid...
So went for braided & stainless rather than rubber..

New battery ordered..

Hey Ash are you going to put braided hoses on the front too?;)

Not unless theym be knackered, maybe later.
Trying to keep costs down, without skimping, see how I get on with it first & upgrade at a later date.
Guzzi's have linked brakes which are great from standard..

Well that didn't quite go as it might of...... :blast

On further checking the linked braking system. The rear brake pipe (small one 1st piccy) from the compensater to the rear brake caliper was also blocked, as was the lefthand front brake pipe (long pipe in 1st piccy) also part of the linked system was the same. :(

On checking the price, the smaller pipe came in at €55.25 as in 2nd piccy
The longer front pipe is listed but no price on website.
But is much longer so must be more expensive than the smaller pipe.

Went to my local hydraulic guys & they did both for £70 cash.. ;)

Which was for braided stainless & did it whilst I waited. :)

But I've done enough bike & car rebuilds etc over 44 yrs to know or more like not know what's coming.. ;)
Luckily for me with my disabilities especially hands /arms my mate is doing the preliminary engine / braking checks & setting up. ( no way could I set up twin points)
So when I get it in my garage I can do the rest..
Only possible because I have a bike lift & I'm an obstinate dafty :loopy

Got no mains electric in my garage though, which is a pain.
Fenk feck for 12v LED lights.

The GS is now coming home to Hungerford.
Just had Hyperpro progressive springs added on the front.
The Guzzi can now go to my garage, now the GS is off the bike lift.
So I can sort the rest of it.
Guzzi is fully running & all brakes working. :thumb

Front & rear linked brake calipers were luckily not blocked like the brake pipes.
So once the new braided pipes were fitted & brakes bled, the linked brakes are working great.
Will check all disc pads as I go through the bike..

New battery fitted, she fires up on the push of the button. :thumb

Wheels need a refurb.
Frame touch up.
Engine paint.
Diff case paint.
Exhaust re chrome or replace with Stainless, no point spending a few hundred quid on chrome when stainless replacements are £300.
Full fluid change.
Replace filters.
Brake disc re paint.
Recover seat..
And no doubt more as it crops up..
