Today was culmination of a 16 month journey with myself & the Strada 1000..
26/02/2019 I purchased it.
No history & not run for over 10yrs.
Having covered a little over 150 miles since it's last MOT in 2007.
All I knew it turned over & was complete.
Other than that I knew nothing..
It obviously had been under some sort of cover, but at some time water /dampness had got to the back end as there was heavily corrosion
The engine oil was like milkshake & engine breathers were blocked.
But internally the engine was really good & the motor now runs as sweet as a nut.
( having changed the oil again last week )
So i think I got away with it ( luckily ).
All the brake lines were completely blocked & replaced with braided stainless items.
Electronic ignition was fitted as for some reason it was running points, but back in the day the motoplat systems failed regularly, but other than that I can't fink why.
I managed to get the down pipes up to scratch, but the silencers & collector box were too far gone.
So stainless Steel items now adorn the Guzzi...
And I went through everything else including a full engine paint & laquer..
I spent 2 full days with the battery drill & metal rasps bringing the brake discs back up..
New disc pads, spark plugs, filters, fluids, cables, battery, relays etc etc..
The Strada's never came with luggage of any sort but as it shares so many parts as the SP3.
I managed to purchase GIVI racks ( powder coated) Panniers, top box & rear rack, that after a bit of fettling went on..
I'd like to say she's finished, but you will never finish an old Guzzi.
I know, this is my 4th Guzzi build.
But other than new bulbs all & new tyres in the near future. Hopefully I can ride her through the summer ( dry days )
Today she was MOT'd & taxed
First time since early 2007..
I did 50 odd miles this afternoon & other than a binding front brake she ran lovely ( in a Guzzi way)
Certainly much more power than my 700GS, open the throttle & a whack of power surges her forward at quite a pace...
She bucks, weaves & you have to hold on, unlike the GS where everything is smooth, calm & coordinated..
The Strada is everything the GS isn't.
But has character in bucket fulls & a charm that all Guzzi owners know & love.
Although I know not why..
Thanks for keeping with me on this thread & the kind words..
If I say it myself, its quite an achievement for me to do these builds giving my disabilities.
But I'm convinced It keeps me semi sane & makes me use my u/s limbs in a way I wouldn't otherwise, that must help somewhere down the line..
I must fank my mate Phil for his technical expertise, fitting the ignition, brake pipes & general guidance.
As some jobs are not possible with my problems..
I will of course update the thread.
But the main part is now complete, now she's road legal..
Regards Ash
