Barn find - 1994 Strada 1000 - recommissioning.......

Superb...

But I couldn't hold the machine Og...
I've got an angle grinder but never use it now, sadly
Didn't think that would work for you / just the idea of using cardboard and cement bags appealed to me as a money saver. :thumb2
I'll certainly try it when(ever the f*ck! ) i get around to doing mine! :D

The silencers on the Guzzi Strada are u/s.
Stainless replacements are circa £350 - £450, even chrome are that sort of price.
So I've been on the look out for a used set.

My phone pings Sunday am as a set came up on eBay, for £120.

SITO replacement chrome silencers ( now owned by Leo Vance ) came off a T4.

Bought them straight away.

Little bit of corrosion on the back near the mounts, but I can treat that & touch up with galvanized paint.
As it's on the back it's not visible..
But in sound condition.

Arrived this morning.

Luckily Guzzi used so many parts across the range of 950 / 1000 cc bikes over many years, that were the same.
Silencers for the main were ethier flat or upswept & the same size.
Using the same 42mm bore.
So easily interchangable..

Well pleased..

Have a guess which twat put a whole in one of the silencers... :blast

I was cleaning up the rust when a screwdriver went through...:(

Luckily my mate is 5 mins away & welded up the whole..

At least I know they are solid now ..

The correct spelling is Hole, unless you are talking about the whole hole .......... Did Dean spellcheck for you ?

Re fitted the sump & sump extension back on.
14 small Allen bolts & 4 long 10mm bolts, upside down & you've got to try not to break the sump gaskets.
A right baastard with no wrists.
:(

Exhausts fully mounted both sides, footrest hangers, footrest & H piece fitted.
Surprising how long these jobs take, when every nut, bolt, exhaust clamp etc has to be cleaned, copperslipped & painted as necessary.
Especially with my hands & arms ..

And only once you've tried to tighten the rear exhaust clamps do you realise you have them the wrong way around & the down pipes have to come off again. :blast
Much bad language was used..

Next big job looms....
Dirty, dusty & time consuming.
And an awful lot of prep b4 repainting & laquering the rear wheel.

A few years ago a member on here was giving away six of these used disc rotor quarters FOC.
So I got a couple, great for stopping the brake caliper pistons from creeping forward when you remove the brake disc from your bike..

:)

Highly recommend these motorcycle Jack's.
Use mine all the time on all my bikes.
I have placed a scissor Jack under the front spindle, but not really necessarily as the bike is on it's main stand & motorcycle jack + a couple of ratchet straps around the front forks.
It would of done but just airing on the side of caution..

Just one of the problems with having various disabilities, is I cant use a hammer.
One, I cant swing it & second, I cant grip.
So trying to use a hammer & impact driver is impossible.
Luckily my mate has his workshop 3 miles away, so I took the front wheel to him to loosen the allen bolts that hold the brake rotors on.

As they are made of chocolate & would certainly round off PDQ...
If you were stupid enough to try and use an allen key or socket & ratchet, especially as thev'e never been undone in 25 yrs & corroded.

I dont know if it would help Ash; but i loosen mine with the wheel in; then just take the wheel out; saying that; they are still tight to undo.

Luckily a good whack with the hammer on the impact driver they all came undone.

Fank feck.. :thumb

Some new Rotary Wire Brushes arrived via eBay, ready for me to clean up & repaint the disc rotors.

Can't wait :blast

The right hand disc was corroded badly & because of the linked brakes has been used much more than the left hand disc.
But it will colour up the same once it's back on the bike.
As it iron, so other than the centres which will be painted Black..

From page 1 post #5

I always put a strap around batteries b4 I fit them to all my bikes

Now, why have I never thought of doing that. I forget which of my bikes it was but getting the battery out was a complete bitch. A strap around it, would have saved me from a lot of swearing.
