Barn find - 1994 Strada 1000 - recommissioning.......

No matter how I try, the front brake ( non linked side )
wont bleed. :( ( air somewhere in the pipe )
So bought a kit .
Fingers crossed..

If you run more than a can of fluid through with no improvement, stop

There will be a leak, or the master cylinder may be fubarred.

all your doing, is wasting brake fluid from there on in

I had exactly the same problem on my Monza when I changed the lever/master cylinder for front right brake, unfortunately I used the same vacuum kit but still without success. The answer for mine was moving the handlebar until the M/C was higher than the joint between the brake hose and the M/C. Because mine had clip-ons that sloped downwards then all the air was collecting in the right angled first joint

Back to play in the garage today after the xmas break.

I tend to stay away from the garage weekends, holiday times because lots of people milling around & using their garages.
Whereas in the day I'm more or less on my own.
Cant be too careful, prying eyes etc ;)

As I have no history of the bike, I thought best to replace the plugs, HT leads & plugs.
The old leads were rock hard, so a good call methinks.

The front battery strap had corroded & there was only a small bit left.
But I had to wait for them to come back in stock as they are only made when enough orders make it worth while..
But give Gutsibits their word.
Theh said they would mail me when im stock.
And true to their word they did..

The rear strap was rusty.
So I sanded it & then sprayed it with galvanized spray paint..

Now I know you don't see it, but it's got to be reet & afterall you wouldn't want the battery flying around in the event of an accident .
I sadly live with the aftermath of a bike smash & wouldn't want acid burns added, should it go tits up.

Every little helps tesco

:D

Don't fear Guzzi fans..

I haven't abandoned the project.
But it's just to cold / damp for Ash's busted body to play in the garage. :(
But i have been ordering bits ready for the final parts of the project.

At present it has an electric fuel warning light built in as standard & I don't trust it ( Italian electrics ). :rob
So I'm replacing the OEM fuel taps with standard on / off / reserve ones.

Just trying g to make it more reliable, plus I like the reserve part..

Ordered 28th Jan, delivered this morning.
Even with €10 delivery charge, still cheaper than uk price.
And they were in stock whereas Gutsibits is 1 to 3 week delivery time..

Good on ya Ash,I'm sure we can all wait patiently ..........;) :)

I'm impatient.... ;)

I thought it would take a year & it has.
But the sale of my X County & F650GS got in the way.
Then the purchase & fettle of my F700GS.

But it was probably good to tackle something different for a while..

I have started looking for my next project :blast

But I am hoping the Strada will be OK for the summer use I have in mind for it.
Especially as its rather rare & it's the last of the Tonti framed models Guzzies made b4 they went fuel injection..

Yuki yuk yuk.

From the Guzzies fuel tank. :(

I'll seal the inside if I keep it at a later date...

I've cleaned it out for now with some old but clean fuel.
New fuel taps going in tomorrow, to do away with electronic low fuel warning light.
Standard taps going on with reserve/on/off..

:),

Some years ago

A local Vauxhall/Opel dealership was clearing old stock so advertised the said new/oldstock in one of the Opel forums

Said part in question was a front bumper for an Opel Manta- he had a fair few in stock and they were going cheap

Suffice to say members of the community rushed to buy these long unobtainable parts...

What followed next was totally unexpected. Upon selling the parts, they were entered onto the sales system, and the stock levels updated daily.

What no one knew was the original part was still live in the stock system, so once the parts passed the MOL (Minimum order level) the sytem automatically raised an order for a new qty of parts

The order was sent to the supplier who pulled out the old tools, and re ran a batch to fullfill the order - and the order qty 5000 parts lol.

Suffice to say on reicipt of the parts into V/O's warehouse the issue came to light, the part was obsoleted from the stock system. and the 5000 parts were re offered to the enthusiasts lol :)

Fanks Boyz..

Given my disabilities I'm very pleased with it..

A bike lift is essential, well it is for me & as I've no mains leccy fank goodness for modern battery drills..

I can't see me parting with this one, but time will tell..
Especially as its the last of the Tonti framed & carburetor engined Guzzi's.
( bar the early 1100 carb'd California's ) a

Its going to my mates workshop next week to have electronic ignition fitted.
Have the front brake fluid bled, if still no worky, then a master cylinder repair kit fitted.
And he's going to make a cardboard template for new exhaust brackets to be made, as the replacement exhaust fixings are different from the originals.
Luckily his son is a welder / fabricator, who will make them 4 me..

Just got to put the rear plastics back on..

As I've said b4 if I can do it anyone can.
