Bugger. Too late to tell you not to get the AW's

I did 15k on these 3 rears and front changed early. They are a good road tyre apart from the howl from the front. They are crap in mud or where there is no hard base when they get worn down. Michelin dont supply offroad pressures as they want you to run road pressures offroad tried this on hard stoney ground and they skip like hell. I found 2bar on the gsa lc to be about the best compromise on the rear and about 1.8 on the front. The carcass is too soft imho so watch your rims in rocky terrain.

More than happy with the Anakees-- grip right to the edges on the road and still give plenty of offroad grip in my experience.
I cant comment on their behaviour on a gs lc because i only have them on my 310 which is 100kg lighter and certainly doesnt stress the tyre with its 34hp, although i agree they are rubbish in very wet conditions because the treads just fill up with mud.
Just returned from doing some of the Italian TET where they were capable enough on the limited offroad mileage and far better than expected on the many hairpins and sweeping bends. Perfect compromise in my opinion-- i never expected to be able to use the whole tread right to the edges.

have a great time mich a/w will do the job my rear ran for 6k with no problems. leave at road pressure they are radials so have a flex in the sidewall. waiting for the ride report .

how many years are you going for with all that kit, from the photo how long will it before your bag melts exhaust side !!

Left them at road pressures with no problems-- the italian TET is mostly onroad. The offroad bits that we covered were very rocky in places and gave the tyres a hard time. Wouldnt like to run low pressures in those conditions.
The length of the drybag is necessary to fit my tent inside,(khyam igloo with integral poles built into it.) .Drybag also contains airbed, sleeping bag , pillow and chair. It looks cramped but isnt..it makes a great backrest with a riding position comfier than my GSLC.
Topbox isnt full..:augie The panniers are only 6" wide and dont hold much at all.

The exhaust was very close to the bags-- i moved the lower mounting bracket to the outside of the exhaust hanger to give another inch clearance. Also removed the front lower bag mount and spaced it out with a piece of U shaped ali channel between the bag and mount. This gave another inch clearance. A fiberglass soldering mat trapped between bag and bracket and then folded under the bottom of the bag gave it even more protection. No melting at all.
Really happy with the bike and the way it handles. Its great fun and did everything i needed on this trip-- any issues were down to my lack of ability. It never missed a beat and averaged 77 mpg over the 2100 miles, didnt use any oil and only needed one chain adjustment.

310 gs

glad you had a great time. so is it a keeper ? mines still on green lane duty and general hack .

Yeah for now. Its perfect for the roadwork i have to do getting to the trails and handles anything my abilities can throw at it....unless anybody wants to buy a TET ready bike.

I saw my first 310 on the road in the Dolomites last weekend - thought it looked and sounded really good. Enjoy!

Cheers Paul. Its a great bike-- i was a bit dubious about doing 10 days around Europe on it but it handled everything we threw at it. If you are prepared to chuck it into corners i really dont think progress is a deal slower than a bigger bike. We did lots of hairpins on the mountain passes and it was keeping pace with the 2x SWM 650's and a 690 ktm. The only thing i missed was the grunt coming out of the corners to dash along the straights....no bother, just keep the throttle back to the stop. Those anakee Wild tyres are brilliant considering they are more like a knobbly to look at.

I don't know how I missed this thread ... but I did. Sounds like you have made similar mods to yours as I did to mine. I'm a bit lighter though at 72Kgs and with the standard RR spring the bike has done all I've asked. If you've got a Facebook account search for "SpudzAfricanAdventure" and you'll find how I had an incident that did indeed impact the exhaust and then how my new found best friend in Cape Town redesigned the right hand rack to offer some protection for the rest of the trip. I've tried TKC70a, TKC80s and Anakee Wilds. I think for the mixed riding that aligns with what you're doing, the TKC80s were my preferred tyre. They do last pretty well on the little 310. I mat have a go with the MotoZ range next though or the Mitas E07 combo as they get a decent review. I can confirm that this is one tough little bike and I'm looking forward to getting it home this week from it's return trip. Many happy miles to enjoy.

I should also have said - if you haven't removed and bypassed the side stand cut-out switch, put down your coffee mug and go do it now. Trust me. Just go do it. Don't do it on the trail when you're trying to remember which two wires to twist together. Need I say any more ...?

The tyre choice came down to the wild or tkc80. The clincher was a youtube video where the tkc 80 was far worse than the wild in the braking test on tarmac. I looked at the mitas range after hearing good reports, long life etc but theres been a few snippets on the tet facebook page about them falling apart when the going gets tough-- knobbly bits ripping off etc.
Might modify the sidestand switch-- mine touches down when i jump aboard anyway so no chance of leaving it down by mistake.

310 gs

I see you have your bike on e bay what level of rear shock is on your bike . any part for sale ?

Aye it's on eBay,..going back to a trail bike if it sells. If it doesn't sell I'll put some full knobblies on it. Not sure where to price it-- new price is around £5400 so I don't think it's too far out.
Rear shock is one level up from the basic. I was about 5 kg below the upper limit for the base level shock so the luggage would have put it way over the top.

It works well. It was loaded up on our little TET tour and coped very well. The preload was wound up to approx two thirds of its adjustment so still a bit in reserve.

I’m loving the look of one of these to put in the garage and be able to throw around.
The ZX14 is likely going to be sold as I’m just not putting any miles on it now. Don’t get me wrong - I love the thing but just can’t use it to its full extent in the uk anymore so the baby GS could be the answer.

Its great fun, nippy enough to keep you out of trouble, riding position very similar to my 1200gslc. It's very neutral handling as well and easy to ride-- it drifts a bit in the corners on the Anakee wilds but you soon get used to it and allow for it. Almost no chicken strips after a few of the passes we did in the Alps earlier this year.:D Even with a Vario topbox on it, an 8kg tent plus gear and softbags full of stuff it never gave me cause for concern. I would happily use it as my regular bike if the 1200 had to go.
The quality is okay IMHO-- it's a beginner's bike, made to a budget. The bodywork is certainly better, for example, than a Honda vfr I had as a project bike recently.
My idea was to ride it to the trails, hence the Wild tyres, but I've found that the ruts and grass on my local trails really do need proper knobblies. I may as well go back to a lighter more nimble trail bike if that's the case. I ain't too bothered if it doesn't sell but you are welcome to come and try it. It would be a great road bike on road tyres or the tourances that it came with.

Looks lovely but all the kit adding to the sale cost over what a standard one is makes it too specialised for me despite being what I would probably do to it anyway!
Plus the fuel to get all the way up and across to you would buy a few parts.

Fair point. Cheers

What size is that black small Pelican case please. It looks just the right size for me to put my sarnies and drink in for work, plus waterproofs etc.

In inches....10x8x5 plus a bit for the rufty tufty sticky out bits hinges and clasps.
I found it ideal for a drinks bottle, snacks and leggings etc for a day on the trails.

How much are you planning to spend on this escapee from the Tamil Nadu Steve; IIRC they are only about £5k new?
