Biting the Bullet

Things have moved on a pace. The engine is complete. Cylinder heads, valve train and camshafts are done and re-timed and it's back in the front frame. Wiring loom is being fitted along with brake lines. The front wish bone is back in with the bottom clamps.

Both shocks are heading off to FirefoxRacing for a rebuild. There's no evidence of catastrophic loss of oil, but they did feel horrible before the bike was stripped, especially the front which was crashing over small bumps. I'm going to get the springs set to my weight and style of road riding and I'm toying with the idea of getting the springs powder coated white (or possibly ohlins yellow)

Front Shock

Rear Shock (which weighs quite a lot - presumably the stepper motor).

Looking god!!.. not realised where the stator located? hope they last!!...
So you managed to get the cam chain tools and did you check the play with a DTI?.. there are 4 sizes of gears (I think) if its out.... :)

i reckon he knows what he is doing dont you?

No interest in doing this myself, but a great read and I am sure a very satisfying thing to do. Keep up the good work !

how do the barrels work... are they just pressed in against an 'O' ring... did you replace this before painting?... I have at TVR 5 Ltr and they have lots of problems with slipped liners etc Old Rover lump.

Is this bike being repainted for Spiderman? :D

That's great work. The engine paint really is sumptuous. No pun intended.

As has been stated, there are few manufacturers whose bikes leave the factory with the engines that well finished.

Dropped both shocks off with FireFoxRacing in Keighley this morning. They reckon on a week turnaround but I'm awaiting on a call back from their suspension technician regarding the issues with the shocks and what I want done with them. The rebuild on the Panzer continues but is concentrated on the front end and the CANBUS wireloom.

WOW ! respect to you ..way above my ability to strip and rebuild the whole bike ....superb read

Beaver, the barrels are actually part of the crankcase...so they're a cast part.

Really.. not right servicable then... I'd assumed they pressed in.. so there must be a inner sleeve? or is it just plated Ali :rolllaugh

interesting.. not in a lathe anyway... they would go nice on the line bore machine... but arn't they coated anyway .. Nikasil or something

So while the shocks are being refurbished the rebuild has continued...

Main Stand and Side Stand have also been powder coated - the main stand will get some helicopter tape applied before it goes back on the road

Eagle eyed people will also spot that there is an oil filter attached. We've sacrificed a filter and fresh oil in the engine. The engine has been turned over on the starter motor to ensure that oil is passing around the engine freely (cylinder heads off to check) and if there is any swarf, foreign materials in there they will be collected by the filter. There were no oil leaks detected and oil was pumping freely.
Fresh oil and filter will be fitted before it goes back on the road.

Spider bike, Spider bike.... does whatever a Spider bike can...
