Custom Lids open their new shop tomorrow (Sun.10th)
at 10.00am

Address is: Unit 6, Tenth Avenue West
NE11 0GU

Another one leaves the hill.

aye another empty shop on the hill,i hope the new place works out for him.

Financial suicide moving from an impossible to park/bloody expensive to park hill (for cars) to an easily accessible industrial estate with easy parking..... Not..

If I want new gear it's always easier to go in the car for obvious transport reason. The council have made it impossible to stop for 1/2 hr to pop in to pick up something.

yip i agree, top of the hill turn left at the lights on the right were some free places, not now they have been round with the yellow paint, not to mention the council cars going around with the cameras on the roof looking for what they can throw at you

Was possibly one of their first customers when they opened their doors and over the years must have spent £1000's on kit for both my wife and myself, however, a few years back (before the split of owners) the attitude of the staff changed and then something happened which made me vow never to use them again and they subsequently lost at least the same amount again in business from me .

Since then many of my mates have stopped buying there as well for a number of reasons .

It is a shame as I prefer to support local businesses and have recently used Hermod with no issues but I will not be visiting their new premises

Me too. Bought most of my kit lately from Proto at top of Hill. Car parking easy enough near here.

Great range of good quality products, not pushy and can normally be leveraged into a discount.

for this reason only ,i would not use proto, yes it was a long time ago ,but i have not forgot it

anyway the thread is about custom lids ,i have always found him a genuine guy ,and no pushy bullshit ,and i hope his new venture works for him

Yep - I remember this but it's ancient history. You've got to speak as you find but I never thought that Kev was the most approachable or personable of people. Bizarrely, his business partner Neil was a lot more "user friendly" and this is not the place to go into the reasons for the split - up...

Personally wouldn't buy any of the own brand gear at Proto but they do have a great range of premium brands, Shoei, Rev - it, Alpinestars etc.

I understand that the majority of Custom Lid's business [as is true of many specialist retailers] comes from internet sales so I would be very surprised if they move to TVTE and keep the Hill shop open.

I’ve had one or two issues with them in the past but none since the split.

Always found Neil helpful, he’s even dropped a few purchases off at my house on his way home, saving me trying to park near the hill.

The attitude of the staff has t been good, their knowledge hasn't been that good.

Also I have never been able to get less than RRP or close to it on any lid. On a c 3 Pro they were 180 quid more than online retailers!! They wouldn't budge.

Got to agree, the charisma feel is not there. Like others say I would like to support local business, but you get that feeling your just a number and not a valued member. Time for customer relations update!!!

I don't no keV as good as most on here, me or the misses go in there if we need anything we have always been welcome every time, we've bought most of our gear there, yes I can get some of it cheaper online and yes he has items cheaper than online, it's retail, before long all retail will disappear and all we will be left with buying online making some one like Mike Ashley more money than he could ever spend,
