gog's basket case GS

Please do keep a record of the costs - it will be really interesting to see what a just-good-enough rebuild actually costs, what the unavoidably expensive bits are etc. That will help others to make realistic assessments if they come across other equally .... err .. challenging projects!

Neil

thanks neil. if they are right for the GS i will gratefully put them to use, though i dont recognise the brackets. hopefully someone can confirm?

The brackets are home made
The previous owner of one of my bikes had fitted them, but they didn't suit what I wanted

Parts I have,
Brake caliper,
Prob airbox,
Prob carbs
Front mudguard rough.
Seat nice one in yellow/black
I may have a tank that’s just been repainted( but this depends on plans for another bike I have)
Also got a silencer,LH side panel,rear subframe,rear mudguard..
And could sort out a set of sh cables

i thought you might have some stuff mike :D

majority will have to wait a while though, not in a position to move too quick so going to do the elbow grease work first.

sent you a pm.

These are the only carbs I’d part with at the mo,
They have the early choke mechanism,
I could probably sort the parts to convert to the later type.
They are a matched pair and would need a clean and service

carbs look fine mike and not fussed about the choke as i probably won’t be using handlebar mounted choke anyway. happy to spend the time cleaning them up and servicing. pm me with prices if you could ;)

You'll need to set up a direct debit with Mikey now Gordon :comfort

Cleaned off some of the cobwebs and grime. Looks like the wheels are true and in excellent condition. The engine turns nicely, has compression and tappets are set perfectly, so seems like it’s not been completely neglected at least while it was in use.

ive decided to make a bitsa, i don’t have the resources to put it back to stock. ive got most of the parts sitting about from various other bikes to get something working.

plan is to strip it back to frame and paint that, clean up the motor and gearbox, make a wiring loom and see where it goes.

got a spare RT tank but it’s too narrow for the frame both front and rear. doesn’t look like the tank would need much modification to fit though. has anyone heard of that being made to work?

carbs and engine cover on the way.

i can’t find my exhaust rose spanner, don’t suppose anyone has a spare to sell me?

few pics. not pretty but i’m not expecting it to be.

at least you have all the parts Jay - im discovering some of my missing parts would cost more than i paid for the bike to acquire (tank!)

frankenbeemer it is, should take less than 10 years ;)
