hi I've just bought a 2007 R1200GS with 7000 miles but the bike has been laid up for several years and now the rear shock has dumped its oil, does anyone on here refurb these or is it a new unit, thanks Kev

Thanks Dens0 got shock fitted after your repair
and finally got round to repairing the abs, (stuck brush) took for a run tonight and what a difference, also fitted alloy wheels and new Bridgstone adventure tyres, Now all I've left to do is repair the gear indication. Thanks for the quick service and letting me know how the job was going, much appreciated. cheers

I have an '06 that has a very bouncy rear shock.

How much does a refurb cost? Looking for a fairly economical fix

It doesn't get more economical then that one hundred British pesos including return delivery for all forum members.

I've an 08 GSA with 40k miles, suspect a refurb would do only good. Question is ,is the ESA the same and do you calculate for say a heavy guy or is it a sort to original standard fix.

I suspect you might have quite a few more comming your way :bow:thumb

(depends on MOT come end of may ;))

HI
Don't make any difference if the shock is with ESA shock body is the same (Showa shocks )
This is the standard rebuild without revalving however the oil I'm using is lot better than standard and is new so the shock "feels stiffer" however this won't change the sag for that we need to add aftermarket spring like hyperpro standard or progresive (worked great on RT I've done last year) I can install them after the rebuild instead of standard spring for the cost of spring if I remember they around £80

Just had my rear esa shock (from a 2010 twin cam gs) serviced by denz0. Very pleased. It's like a new shock and the service was quick and very reasonably priced. Denz0 is a great chap and highly recommended by me.
I had trouble refitting the lower part of the shocky till realising there's a bush that needs to be pressed over to allow clearance. No mention of that in my Haynes.

Mine arrived with Luke yesterday, hopefully I'll have it back by the middle of next week - I wanted a black spring rather than Hyperpro's usual purple, so that caused a bit of a delay. Re the bush, it's not mentioned on BMW's workshop CD-RePROM either! I only found out about it when Googling prior to fitting new units on my previous bike, a 1200ST - I spotted it on the Touratech website here http://blog.touratech-usa.com/2013/04/17/how-to-bmw-r1200gs-adventure-shock-installation/....glad I looked before taking the plunge!

Hi Dezo just BMW shocks or any brand as I was thinking of refurbing my DR650?

HI
Any brand as long as the sealhead is not welded on and can be disassembled.
Other shocks could take couple of days longer then BMW as I don't have all the seals on the shelf I only keep what I use the most
But if the time is not the problem here we can definitely get them done !

thats a good deal. When I had mine refurbed, it was £125 plus post from another firm. Work was good and price was fair, but this is cheap! nice one
