Back from a trip round the NC500. Pretty decent weather apart from low cloud at times and a bit of hail!. Used YHA and SYHA as nightly stops, drying rooms are always usefull. Highlight the portion from Inverness to Durness via Applecross. Least good part , vising John O Groats and the final day A road and Motorway trip back home from Wooler, If I had had a little more time for the journey that day would have planned a more interesting route.

A great trip, and some lovely photographs, but for me the NC500 misses the point. It blatts people round a given route, for tourism's sake, and misses out, really misses out, some of the best motorcycling roads, places and people up there in Scotland. It's a 'ticky box' situation I'm a thinking :blast

Not wanting to piss on your strawberries, but please take time, next time, to explore and spend time .... it's not to be hurried, it's not to tick a box, it's to be savoured ... and not 'on the clock'. Find those little roads ...

Apologies

Fair comment Micky and my strawberries taste just fine. I always think it's better to do something rather than nothing and given the time I had available feel the compromises made were worth it. I'm no stranger to Scotland but the coastal road north from Applecross was as good as anything I've ridden.

Point taken ... and fully understood :thumb2

Just reread my post , didn't mean to sound so defensive. :beerjug:

You didn’t . It was a wholly reasonable reply which Micky understood :thumb

I was supposed to be doing it a couple of weekends ago when the weather really changed, after the glorious BH weekend, so we can cancelled it :blast

Cheers. I was fairly lucky with the weather. Never got truly soaked but pleased to have left the handlebar muffs on, they normally come off at the end of April. Going fairly early in the year meant the smaller roads were pretty quiet, often didn't see another vehicle for 10 minutes at a time.

Cheers Rushy :thumb2

From a scenic point of view the north west of Scotland is superb ... but it comes a close second to the west coast of Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way, which the NC500 tries to emulate, but can never equal, I'm afraid to say.

But from a motorcycling perspective, from two wheel enjoyment, in beautiful scenery, maybe not as magnificent as the Wild Atlantic Way or the NC500, the Scottish Borders are Supreme :D
