So last Sun (28th Apr) Jon (BluesnTwos), Tyrone (EasySushi) and myself set off to Portsmouth to catch the 0800 ferry crossing to La Havre. No real plan in mind other than to spend 6 days travelling around the wonderful roads and sights that Brittany has to offer. Accommodation was camping all the way, and during the crossing we agreed that rather than packing up everything and moving to a different site daily we'd find a more central camp site and use that as a base for the trip..

Setting off on the crossing..

Always wondered what it's like in a life boat...

We arrived in La Havre around 1430 and by the time we'd left the port it was around 1500. Given the time we decided we'd head to a campsite that Jon and i visited last year in a town just north of Granville called Coudeville-Plage where the campsite is right on the beach:

We got the tents set up then off for food and a walk along the beach before breaking out the fire box to get warmed up!!

I have to say i'm really please with the Robens Lodge 2, it's perfect for 1 person, great quality and very easy to pitch..

That was a bloody cold night but it stayed dry and we woke up to sun on Monday morning ready for the ride down to Saint Coulitz where we were to stay for the next 3 nights.....

More to come..

The following morning we woke to dry tents and warmer temps, we packed everything up and by 1100 we were on the road heading south west with our destination being Saint-Coulitz around 12k from the west coast and around halfway between Brest and Quimper. We tried to avoid all motorways and set the nav to curves roads and had our first taste of the lovely French back roads. Although after a few hours we realised we had a lot of mileage to cover so fastest route was engaged with motorways and toll roads set up as avoidances.

We eventually arrived in Saint-Coulitz around 1700 and what a beautiful town it is. The campsite is just outside of Chateaulin on the river Aulne which forms part of the Nantes/Brest Canal and is renowned for salmon fishing.

The campsite is around a 5-10 minute ride from the centre of town and is just across the road from the river. It's called Camping La Pointe and is run by an English couple who have put a lot of effort into making it a great campsite. As it was early in the season we had our pick of the pitches and shortly after we arrived Mike (owner) arrived with a fire pit and logs for us to have a fire. I always use the cool camping website to try and find decent pitches and it didn't disappoint. The toilets and showers set the standard with everything you need and all for only €10 each per night..

As soon as we set up it was out for supplies and for dinner that night we had a protein feast of steaks, sausages and kebabs all cooked over the fire.. With full bellies, we sat up talking bollox until around 2300 before hitting the sack..

A very enjoyable read. Britanny is on my doorstep and a firm favourite of mine for weekends away on the bike. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Looks like a good trip, keep the photos coming

Hope the new seat is working out

Cheers chaps,
Dave, the seat is working well:thumb2

So, onwards and upwards...

The following morning it was determined that omelettes of cheese, peppers, bacon onions and mushrooms were needed for breakfast so Jon got on with the main part and i started on the bacon..

After breakfast it was time for a clean up and then it was time to ride....

Our intention for the day was to head north to the coast and to a town called Plouguerneau, stop for a coffee and then follow the coast to the East and ending up near Brest as Jon wanted to buy a new air pump as his had fallen apart the previous day. Jon, plugged the destination into his nav and we rode some great roads to the coast. However, when we arrived we realised we were a little further east than we intended to be. Jon had mistakenly typed in the coastal village of Plougoulm so we decided to stop for a coffee at a nice bar and take in the view...

More to follow....

I'm afraid there is a lack of photos for the rest of the ride back down to Brest and then to Decathlon where Jon managed to purchase a replacement air pump for his bed. However on the way back to the campsite we stopped for some supplies and when we got back it was time to start a fire, open a bottle of Gentleman Jack and get cooking...

That's it for tonight more to follow tomorrow...

I am going camping on Thursday!!! First time since I was 18. Thrown money at the problem......... 2 nights at the Touratech Travel event in Brecon. There might be a rather expensive tent and accessories available soon after. Obviously I shall be going to a hotel for two nights afterwards to be cleaned and fed:p

Really looking forward to it especially after this thread. I shall draw the line at catering though. Apparently they have staff there for that sort of thing! I am going to try to resist buying any tat for my bike whilst there but can't make any promises :beerjug:

I like camping when its nice weather but the thought of a long day on bike, arriving at some shitty site and pitching the tent in the rain, then trudging like a school boy to the nearest shower block puts me right off compared to arriving at a little hotel and be down in the bar 20 minutes after arriving.....
But this does look very pleasant.

I couldn't agree more :beerjug:

They have KTM790s to ride there this weekend so obviously I shall be giving my expert opinion on them based on a 2 mile test ride around a trail................... I know, I know.... You can't wait.

Loving the protein heavy diet lads, very mouthwatering, looks like a good trip so far.
