I was asked a few months ago to organise a 2 week trip to Alaska for a Dutch pal of mine and a group from his bike club in Eindhoven. Unfortunately, a couple of members of the group had a major RTA so they have asked me to postpone it until next year whne they will hopefully be fully recovered.

Anyway, I've done all the hard work and organised rental bikes, motels etc etc so it would be a real shame to cancel the whole thing so I'll put this out there so see if anyone fancies a 2 week trip to one of the great destinations to ride.

Right here are the basics:

  • 14 day trip starting and finishing in Anchorage guided by me. Full route attached.
  • All tarmac apart from the Top of the World Hwy and the Denali Highway which are hard packed dirt (approx 300 miles in total)
  • All motels booked and will be paid for on arrival. Rooms are shared unless you are a couple or want a sigle room.
  • 8 rental bikes, 4 x R1200GS/A's and 4 x F800GS's, available (800's are a bit cheaper) but others are available. Full insurance included.

It's fairly late in the season but the weather is generally pretty good. It can be very hot up there in the summer but is starting to cool off at this time so temps should be between 15c and 20c although anthying can happen at anytime up there hence I always carry a heated jacket. The great thing about this time of year is the Mosquitos are gone!!

The riding will be superb as anyone who has been on one of my trips up there will confirm and I put this trip together to cram as much in as possible. The roads are just about empty and the views are absolutely staggering no matter where you are and which way you look.

The mileages are sensible and easy to do up there so don't be put off by a couple of long days. Everywhere is a long way from anywhere else so a lot of riding is in the middle of nowhere.

Alaska is not the cheapest place on earth as everything has to be trucked up there but no more than Northern Europe in my experience. On the B side of that, the fuel is cheap!

Flights are easy to get and are in and out of Anchorage. The approach over the mountains in good weather is worth the entrance fee alone.

It really is a great place to ride and it's certainly a place you won't forget in a hurry.

If anyone wants more details let me know asap.

Why hasn’t that eejit got off his bike? Ducks disease that's why!

As I recall, that was the day I graduated from “for gods sake Shakey stand on the pegs”. To “erm, actually, that might be a bit quick for standing on the pegs” :D

That looks like a great itinerary and I can only highly recommend both it and Chris’ relaxed touring style.

Pm sent for info.

I'm assuming this trip is not happening,
Doesn't seem to be much interest in this thread and I didn't receive any info after my PM,
An update would have been nice.
I shall make other plans for a trip later this year back into Europe again.

Hi Gazza, apologies for not responding but just gone through my PM's and found your's sitting there unread. I will respond shortly.

I haven't had enough interest in this so I'm going to postpone it until more of less the same time next year.

I'll leave this here for a few days them post a new thread.

Thanks Chris.

Hmmmm. If there is a possibility of this happening next year I may be interested in this instead of the 3 week tour from California that I expressed an interest in.

Decisions decisions. I shall await confirmation of the trip before deciding. Don't want to muck you around but I WILL be doing one or the other.

Sounds interesting. I have been wanting to do a long trip for sometime now. I will watch this space for futher details

Have you had any time to do any planning for this in 2020 Chris. Some info and dates etc if it's going to happen would be helpful so I can at least book my time off at work.

There's not been any updates for this so I've decided to go elsewhere thus year.
Thanks anyway Chris, another time maybe.
