My parents lived in the Luberon for over 20 years, so I can vouch for it being a nice area to holiday and ride about in. If you must go in August be warned.... it’s HOT, as in VERY HOT. Towards the end of the month and into early September you can get the occasional most monumental thunderstorms, with hail (of seriously large pieces) lightning, strong winds and occasional small scale local flooding of some roads. An hour after they have gone.... the sun comes out again. If you are unlucky enough to encounter the Mistral wind, you’ll be delighted by the bright blue cloudless sky but wishing you’d brought your thermals. Have fun, it’s a great place.

I found the detailed maps for each route, good enough to zoom in on to create your own version.

Curviger comes up with a possibly unusual non-motorway, no toll roads, avoiding goat tracks route from Calais to Avignon, curving to the west.

Via Michelin does something similar for one of its options, then provides one through Paris and another along what I assume is the more regular route, down past Dijon and the Rhône valley.

As a part of the lap around France route I am creating for next year, I downloaded these three routes from the magazine's website, choosing the Garmin GPX option. They cost a couple of euro each, payable via PayPal, downloading in under a second each.

When the routes download and display in BaseCamp on a Mac, they show the classic 'straight lines between points' problem. Just hit 'recalculate' whereupon the routes 'jump' onto the roads perfectly. The routes look OK, just needing a little tidying up. For anyone wanting an easy time, they would do a great job.
