If this has been posted before I apologise, but I cant find anything in the forum search.

I ride a 2011 GS650 twin (800cc) with 46800 miles on the clock. My bike lives outside under a bike cover

Recently ive experienced problems with my dash display. On switching the ignition on the system does the usual checks before starting the engine, ABS etc. The bike starts fine but after maybe 2 or 3 miles the ABS light will flash and my screen goes blank. I have no speedo, gear selection, petrol and engine temp etc. However the Rev counter is still active and the engine does not cut out. The display will light up again after maybe 5 seconds and will be fine for a few minutes before doing it again. On my morning commute of 10 miles this can happen a dozen times. My power socket will also cut out, I use a radio connected to the auxiliary plug when I'm instructing on a Saturday at my mates motorcycle school. Occasionally a head light bulb will blow also!

Ive checked for moisture in connections at back of instrument cluster and lights. My next job is to try all the connections around the rectifier, battery and anywhere else that may well be suspect.
If anyone has experienced a similar problem and has found a cure or can point me in the direction of info to help me out, I will be eternally grateful. A visit to a BMW specialist is one possible answer, but the repair may well be more than the bike is worth!

Thanks in advance

That sounds like an voltage - alternator/rectifier issue..
My alternator threw the towel in around 63,000 miles and the symptoms you describe are similar, I had a Gamatronic Voltage indicating LED fitted which confirmed the voltage decay.
When the electrical system voltage drops the bike will start to shut down non critical systems, to keep the engine and fuel supply system running as long as possible.
The ABS controller is sensitive to low voltage, hence the ABS system warning light.
Have you checked the battery voltage, with engine running at 3,000 rpm, should be above 14 volts DC.

Thanks for your reply. I had a new alternator and rectified fitted last year. I checked voltage anyway and it's fine. I took battery out checked connections etc. Couldn't find anything untoward. Put everything back together and went for a spin. Only 6 or 7 miles. Displaying blank once after slowing for lights. This morning on regular commute only went blank twice or at least only twice that I noticed. More to do but at least I have some progress. More ideas still very welcome
