So my R1100 has done 50k and the starter is still ok. But I have a big trip coming up. (Stalingrad via Chernobyl)
What mileage do they go tits up anyway?
I can get a new Valeo for £180 and it seems like cheap insurance while far away.
But it's another Valeo; are the newer ones less likely to chuck a magnet?
Maybe I should just buy a spurious item.

Hey Mark, there are some cheap copies available on eBay - someone will post a link I’m sure. Lots of folks here have fitted them and they are excellent, and a fraction of the price.

Service it. My starter lasted 130k miles with one or two cleans in that time. New starter in the post as I type.
In the UK Wood Auto is a supplier ~£65 plus VAT for aftermarket item.
