Hey folks I need some advice please has anybody done either and which is more resistant. All answers greatly appreciated.

Powder coating is more resilient to wear as it's basically a flexible plastic coating. Paint is cheaper and easier to do but not as durable.

You could try having them galvanized,much more durable finish. Otherwise I would paint them.
 
Alternatly you could purchase one of those home plating kits and do it yourself.
 
i sprayed my 1200 ones. Looked ok, started wearing through after 2 months, but rust was gone after sanding. This time I used a primer after sanding my 1150 hangers. Then left them the required time and sprayed them with 3 coats, 24 hours apart...Same with my side stand . No ugly scenes yet after 3 weeks....
