The varios are just about ok for every day but I need bigger and better for touring and am reluctant to buy the BMW Adventure ones with all the fitting kit. Any alternatives you're using?

My brother has a Shad top box that is adjustable. 58 liter max I think. You will need a fitting kit as well. If it’s just for 1 trip why not try those bags that mount on top of the adventure panniers? With a bit of ingenuity you should be able to make them work. I don’t know of any direct replacement bigger boxes that would mount straight on. JJH

Why not try these
Bungee on top of your boxes

2nd for Lomo, I use the 30l hold-all and I find it more than enough for 5 nights away. Just put it on the pillion seat and use an elasticated cargo net to secure and off you go. And at £25ish very good value too.

I have got the Vario Panniers and the 49Ltr BMW Top Box from an XR:

And if you sill need more space there are Vario brackets and bags you can add:

Unless your travelling 2 up (or camping) you dont need panniers as with post #5 use a Lomo bag or if you want to be posh use Kriega.

The less baggage the less extra stuff you dont need.

been thinking about this option but its 600 odd quid from bmw!,dont spose you have a pic of it on your bike?,the xr top box i mean

Take a look at Metal Mule.

I’ve travelled thru South America, Africa, New Zealand and Europe with them. Good points, easy to knock back into shape if you have a bad off. Will not shatter or crack like plastic. Easy to load and unload with top hinged lid. Will protect the bike in a drop as keep the bike from hitting the ground in combination with engine bars. Dust and water proof.

Down side, could be considered expensive.
