Engine bars and head covers

Hi again. For those of you that haven’t seen my first post I inherited an R1150GS after my dad passed away and after working to get it on the road my first trip ended badly after hitting oil on a blind corner first ever crash as well. Now the bike is back together and I’m looking to replace the crash bars. The crash bars have severed their purpose and saved the engine but I know they won’t do the same if it ever happens again so I’ve decided to replace them and will probably go with heed. I had them on a tiger 955i I use to own. But my question is should I do away with the plastic head covers as they’ve seen better days or replace them?
