Over here!
Can anyone confirm what the stock non-ESA rear shock spring rate is? Have seen 130Nm/mm and 140 mentioned

Bike is GS (not Adv) 2008 with non-ESA suspension

thanks

Wp suspension short shock 130Nm
Showa shock 140Nm
RT 2009 150Nm could be used on short shocks with small adaptation (similar lengh)

thanks. am i right in thinking that there aren't replacement linear springs for the original showa shock for standard gs?

also, out of interest, do you know spring rate for the front on non-esa 2008 bike? cheers

I think it's 50Nm... wp short showa looks bit thicker so i would think is 55/60
But I can check that when I get back

OK thanks. I've seen 50 mentioned elsewhere so I think that's prob right

My WP shock came with a 120 nm spring (which I believe is the same rate as the stock Ohlin's spring) and it was softer than a 100 quid duck down pillow from John Lewis.

I was told the stock BM spring is 130 nm. WP heaviest spring was a 140nm, which wasn't going to change my world. So the WP one was thrown in a skip and I got a one off 175nm spring made by http://www.dfaulknersprings.com/acatalog/Specials.html good service and 4 years on the spring is doing its job.

If buying again (aiming for 120kg min loading of rider and gear) I'd go for a 180 nm or more.
We just got back from NL with their stupid speed bumps. On 50 mph roads we were scraping it coming off them gently two up, 170kg load, (and had to go down to 25mph with loaded paniers and topbox on top of that weight)

Thanks for sharing this ! I was looking long time for the alternative place to get the springs and looks like this is it !!! They can make pretty any spring you would ever need.
Why did you decide to go for that spring rate in the first place ? Not 150 or 160 I dont see many bikes with springs that hard

142 N/mm or 14.5 Kg/mm

On good authority

You can verify this by checking the Race Tech website (main aftermarket suspension manufacturer in USA) which lists stock spring rates. Kg/mm to N/mm is x9.81. 2008 non-ESA bike

Fwiw Nitron spec approx 185 N/mm for 120kg and Race Tech around 170 N/mm. Maybe Americans like it a bit softer

successful spring upgrade to match the color of the bike...
I've used custom 167N\mm spring for the 110kg rider.
On the last trip, he snapped the bleed screw of the rear caliper and stretched one bolt with the Touratech toolbox
The shock was bottoming out all the time two up and maximum preload
This beautiful spring sorted out this problem bike still feels soft on the beginning of the stroke but feels very responsive and easy to turn mid stroke is certainly stiffer!
110 kg =>55mm sag which is perfect for this bike 2/74343718e6a68a52fc1173babd939fa0.jpg[/IMG]

sorry only just saw this post.

Well the 120nm was pathetic, almost bottomed out with just the bikes weight on it...
Stock was 130nm (as I was told) and was pathetic - including when 2 up where mainbeam lit the north star but nothing at all on the road...
WP used to do a 160 but not been available for years...
I weigh 110kg and ride like rossi's the slow one

I figured I may as well go firmer properly.... But it could easily do with a bit more. Its properly soft... the rear movement (with stock spring) on the back of the KTM super adventure is about 3 times stiffer
