I have a Sena 10U attached to a Shoei Neotec helmet and during my tour (still on it) the intercom died in the rain. Not a peep since. The basic reset didn't work and the factory reset won't work if its not speaking to you! The charging point cover was in place, so obviously it didn't like the rain (it was torrential). Tried to ask for some support on the Sena web site, but at the end of the online form you fill in (at the fugging end!) it asks you for the serial number on the box! Forgot to bring the box. Dam. Support designed not to give you any when you need it most.

So, by by Sena, won't be doing that again. Any recommendations for an alternative. i don't ride with groups, don't do the phone when riding or listen to music. Just need my sat nav (Garmin 660, to talk to me).

Thanks in advance,

Yes, I will give that a try when I get back. Thanks.

Just for info I had an old Sena before the Sena 10U and took it to Louis moto here in Germany, they sent it back to be fixed no questions asked, just charged me 20 euro postage fees, not bad for service considering I had not bought it from them.

The serial number will be on the unit somewhere. On my Schuberth 10U it is on the back of the battery pack. I’ve just googled some images of yours and I think it is on your battery pack. If you release the poppers holding it in place I think you should be able to slide the battery pack down and see it.

Was looking for bike coms, in Sena reviews the battery is not replaceable, so if/when it does fail the 10u is scrap, reports of battery s only lasting a year, chose Midland in the end, haven't had long but looks a well made bit of kit and you can replace the battery if needed

Battery isn’t replaceable in most models of comms units, so same applies they are scrap once the battery dies. Saying that I’ve had a 10u fitted to a SCHUBERTH C3 for the last 3 years and it’s still going strong. It gets used regularly and lasts the 12 hours of a Bloodbike shift (just used for music & occasion phone calls during the shift). The SRC I had fitted prior didn’t last so well, less than 2 years and it stopped working.

It is relatively straightforward to DIY the battery in a 10u if necessary. Once you open the unit up it becomes pretty obvious what’s required. But like others my battery lasted ages.

Batt replacement 10u

The battery is replaceable it’s a known issue that the 10u has has battery problems, I’ve just ordered a replacement after removing the original unit to establish the size, volts, amh and watts pic below. It took 2 mins to get the battery out.

Love my 10u in my E1, people don’t realise I’m on the bike when they call me and paired with the handlebar remote, very easy too use, haven’t managed to wear the battery out on a daily basis yet and have had a couple of 12 hour days, had it about 3 years.

Having got the old battery out, from whom do you buy the replacement. Do Sena supply them?

Tom

I've had 2 x 10U unit, both went in one speaker, after the second one went I got a full refund from the supplier (Sportsbikeshop) they couldn't have been more helpful if they tried, so I used the money to buy a 20s, no problems so far but tbf it hasn't been used that much.

Be careful. The wires are not copper. I didn’t trust my soldering skills to this and had a local electronics guy do it for me. He did say that the sockets are available to buy from specialist suppliers.

Good tip and good find to the ops.............:clap:clap

Thanks for all the info guys. I am still not impressed by an motorcycle intercom that fails in the rain. But I will see about a repair when I get home.

I share your view entirely but having taken these apart and put them back together I think you have been extremely unlucky to have got water ingress. I think it is well worth taking up with Sena.

Battery arrived I de-soldered the wires and socket from the old battery and soldered them to the chip that controls the power on the new battery very easy to do will post results later it’s on charge as shown.
This is worth a try for the sake of £5.90 I will re seal the unit when re assembled.
