Travel insurance

Waiting on some test results from doc’s and as I’m due to got on trip next week need to get travel insurance but can’t get a quote / cover until I have the results .
How late can I leave it and how late has anybody bought cover .

Right up until you depart home. I think most policies do not allow policy commencement en-route.
