Looking forward to this, it's been at least 10 years since my last visit and we set off in a few hours....We'll be in Cumbria overnight tonight with a short ride planned tomorrow experiencing the local areas before overnighting in Hawick. From there we head to Moffat for Wed evening then the tour really begins.....

Will keep updating on daily progress as we go...:thumb

where are you planning to go?
Scotland is very diverse with a huge range of roads and scenery

Don’t let the weather put you off if it is damp, I went in May and it proper lashed it down on the first and last day, but I still had a great time.

No such thing as bad weather - just the wrong clothes lol

Only trouble in Scotland is that its 4 seasons in one day

I think it was Billy Connolly who said there were only two seasons in Scotland - June and winter - .... he wasn't far off

theres a hidden secret in Moffat. On approaching from the motorway slip road , there is an Esso Garage on the right hand side, just before the main town high street, Opposite here is a cul de sac called The Glebes. prob about 10 houses in total in the road. Ride down and see what lies in one of the front gardens....unbeliveable

That is bizarre (just checked it out on Google street view).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/south_of_scotland/7941411.stm Installed in 2009, long after Moffat was one of my teenage stamping grounds.

It's Glebe, not Glebes. Glebe refers to an area of land associated with the local Manse.

We set off from Windsor at around 1000 and spent the day on the M40 and M6 mainly. Weather was fine and we only got a slight soaking as we passed by Blackpool. Stopped at the same services as another member on here did on a similar trip so took a few photos before completing the last leg and arriving at the hotel in Grange-over-Sands at around 1600.
I have pre-booked all our accommodation through Booking.com and our first night is at the Hampsfell House Hotel. Reasonably priced for B&B (40.00 pppn), Dinner is extra but worth it and after some Haddock and Scampi goujons we decided to walk it all off for an hour before hitting the sack.
Today we have breakfast at 0830 before heading to the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Ribblehead Viaduct before taking the scenic route to the Kielder Forest and on to Hawickand our second nights accommodation at Wiltonburn Farm...

From tomorrow we will be following a route around Scotland that has been created by a Scottish journalist - JG Fegusson who has written a book called The Motorcyclists Guide to Scotland. Another member posted recently on here regarding his ride up to do the NC500 and, whilst it is something i want to do, i think its more of a tick in the box ride. Much like the Stelvio - i did it but wouldnt do it again...

Having purchased the book and spoken to some Scottish friends and work colleagues about the suggested tour in the back of the book decided that would be the route for us. Around 1000 miles of Scotland starting at Moffat and taking in the likes of Irvine, Lochgilphead, Glencoe, Lochcarron, Inverness, Pitlochry,Edinburgh, Peebles and Longtown averaging between 100-200 miles per day. With suggested places to eat and stay he even suggests specific soundtracks to listen to on certain roads so looking forward to the next few weeks touring around...

If you're starting at Moffatt it would be criminal not to take in the road leading past the grey mares tail waterfall. Utterly joyful road to ride!

We’re planning on riding Moffat and Selkirk tomorrow following the A708 to Selkirk followed by the B7009/B709 to Eskdalemuir..
