Dear GS owners
I have a 2017 gsa and am away on a trip in Morocco and keep getting this message.
EMERGENCY CALL FAILURE
MAKE AN APPOITMENT AT A SPECIALIST WORKSHOP.
Thank you in advance

Mine has been fixed by dealer at 6000 mile service by updating software on SOS module.

Update on above --- NO, it hasn't been fixed . It still comes up with the false "Emergency call failure message" on most rides out.
Have reported it on 600\ 6000 miles services & 12000 mile service & now to BMW customer services , no solution or explanation has yet been given.

Had the same problem on my 2018 GS and I found it to be a distracting PITA which is why I didn't get it on my 1250. I use the what3words app instead. It doesn't have the auto call feature the SOS has but it doesn't keep flashing up warning messages on the TFT either.

Well mine has never disconnected or had any warning messages displayed since I've had the bike, which is over a year, perhaps it isn't working at all :)

Probably not working :) .
I'd be interested to know if yours is working Casbar.
Push the button and test it. Dealer may not have activated it??. I did eventually resort to pushing the button and you just get someone asking if you are OK and do you need help. Just tell them you are testing it to see if it works as you think it may be faulty. You won't get emergency services coming out so long as you talk back to them, if you don't reply then they will call 999 and you will get emergency services out, so don't treat it lightly and mess them about. Quite a reasonable speaker and mic in the little switch actually.
Doesn't stop the annoying call failure messages though :) .

Dealer told me to report the call failure message to BMW UK customers services, so I did, and they sent a reply asking which dealer I bought it from. I replied and told them , then cusotomer services told me they had asked the dealer to look into it and to let me know within two days, and if they hadn't got back to me let customer services know. Two weeks later I got back to customer services to tell them I hadn't heard anything. They replied they have asked the dealer to let them know and then they will let me know :) .
Bit of a shambles really!, don't understand why BMW UK kick it back to the dealer?? Surely it should be escalated up to BMW in Germany, not down and back to dealer. Cant expect the dealer to have power to rewrite the software!.

I know it's not the end of the world, particularly in these current times, but it's just pissing me off now and especially the wording of it -- "Emergency call failure, contact a specialist workshop" , should just say "Something's happened re SOS but we haven't a clue what it is" :) .

Does anyone have a known working SOS system fitted on a GS that does NOT come up with the "Emergency call failure message" on TFT intermiitently (at least once in every 200 miles on mine) ???.

So that's another piece of BMW useless crap then :blast

Yep.
Could be a life saver if you had an accident and were on your own in a ditch but day to day it's a pain with the false message flashing up.
