Following on from my posts in the TPS thread I think I definitely need new primary coils, so I am going to start with them first, my question is what are the alternatives available to BMW ? Does anyone know the beru part equivalent? Or any other equivalents? I presume the numbers 03/10 are the date of manufacture? If so I suppose these have lasted well.

I replaced mine last year with BMW parts. The originals lasted 12 years and nearly 90.000 miles so I thought it wasn't worth trying to save a few quid. They were about 80 quid each iirc.

I got Beru secondaries, about £20 less each than BMW as I recall. Stainless casings rather than painted steel, my old coils had badly rusted and delaminated.

Any idea on beru part number for primary coils my 2010 GSA TC? I have googled and ebayed and can’t find any part numbers.

Appears to be the same for all R1200 models / varients

The 385 is the upper stick coil, and the 383 / 384 are the handed lower coils

Where did you find the link for the ZS385 and the GSA TC 2010? I can’t find it. :blast

If you look at real oem

The 4 coil system is shown for the following model varients

From MY04 K25 varient 0307-317 MY08 0303 - 0313 MY10 0450-0460

so from 04 until 12/12 they all use the 4 coil system, a universal upper & two handed lowers

From 10/2011 they changed to K50 OA01 - OA11 - these all went to 2 upper coils only

Admittedly i didnt go and check each individual part number, but checked the top level pic, and as i say, all the same ..

So any of the beru units should work :) (for the date ranges )

Just a note for you Howz. Don't throw out the old coils yet.

A while back, when I had the 1150, I too got new coils (I think I got them from MW). They weren't oem but they were essentially the same coil. The problem was, they didn't come with the ribbed rubber sleeve that's on the old coil. Thankfully I still had the old coils so I could re-fit them.

That ribbed sleeve helps supports the coil along its length.

Thanks for that, not sure if mine is supposed to have that? If it does it hasn’t now!!

Thanks again, had a chat with a company that sells them this morning and they think they will be compatible as well, have to order them in which will be around a week, but at £52 each I can wait!!

I remember now, I bought my Beru coils from M&P.

Sorry, its an age thing, my memory isn't what it used to be.

Don't worry too much. It'll work just fine without that ribbed sleeve.

Holding off on this for now as I have been offered a good used set.

I had coils that appear fine and have good resistance values across the primary and secondary windings, but then subsequently go bad under heat and/or load.

Hello from Greece..just to ask again something that i dont understand
I have 2011 R1200Gs(see my coil at photo) ..beru coils are all the same no depending year?i just ordered beru Zs385 and i was confused about coil numbers for 2004-2009 and 10-12 models..are all the same?
So the secondary coils also are all same ?
Thanks..

I believe the 2 horizontal coils are the primarys, these have 1 part number as the fit both sides

The secondary coils are the ones that sit under the cylinder, these are handed (LH / RH) they have odd and even part numbers odd=left hand even=right hand if i recall

I thinks what is being asked is the same question I had, which is that the BERU ZS385 are listed for lots of different variations of the 1200 apart from the 2010 - 2012 TC models, I asked on here and also asked 2 companies that sell the Beru coils, 1 company said they are not sure and wanted my VIN no etc, the other company said they should be fine.....so it will be interesting if the ones Johnpatsa has ordered fit and work in the TC? This is one of the reasons I held off as well as being offered a good used pair.
Yes it seems that all secondary coils are the same.
