Thanks to Stujw70 of this parish, I got the opportunity to acquire a full sized pannier back from an RT which I have swapped my GS pannier lid across to - just drilled out the rivets and replaced them with stainless bolts, nuts and washers.

The main issue with a full-size left pannier is the exhaust, so the point of my post is to give info on some bits which work a treat:
- Exhaust joining piece
- Bracket

Exhaust joining piece in SS - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Bend-Exhaust-Adaptor-Reducer-Joining-Sleeve-Connector-Any-Size/131154150288?hash=item1e89658390:g:pYQAAOxy0zhTN9MX
Specifications supplied to the seller:
30° bend and shortest overall length possible
Inlet end - 44mm ID with clamp slots and 30mm long expansion
Outlet end - 44mm OD without clamp slots and 30mm long expansion
You can opt to receive a clamp included in the cost if required

Bracket in SS - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lextek-Motorcycle-Exhaust-Silencer-Universal-Hanging-Bracket-Slotted-Design/362536302404?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
NOTE, This doesn’t come with the nuts/bolts in my pics... I just have shit lying around that I can make use of.

Modesty blocks in black - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Modesty-blocks-Black-Kitchen-cabinet-cupboard-Shelves-Top-Quality/312444145647?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=611123527310&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

When I need the luggage, I can swap the exhaust position in less than 10mins and fit matching panniers, whilst retaining my titanium Remus and not melting the pannier. A win:win :thumb

Just run without the can. (if you still have the catalyser box). The box does most of the silencing work.

Ran my Rockster like that for years, and will do again with my current bike one I find my old "stub".

BTDT. I still have the old collector and a GSXR600 stubby but, like others, I like my y-piece/Remus and don’t want to have to sacrifice it to use a large left pannier.

Paul, thank you for the links and measurement info very useful

Does changing the exhaust positioning cause a niggle for removing the wheel?

Cheers.

It will do, but how many times does that need doing while touring, and it exactly the same as for an RS/RT where a full size left pannier dictates a lower exhaust. Being away from the rear footrest hanger means you could just slacken the clamps and rotate it to give room, or remove the silencer altogether as it’s just undoing a a clamp and a bolt to remove it.

After 15 years using a Y piece I switched to a Stubby with the CAT around 4 1/2 yrs ago and actually think the bike go's better this way (also a stage 9 chip) :)
