Hi all, I have an opportunity to buy a 2005 1200gs.
Part Bm service history, part owner.
77k, reasonable condition. With panniers.
Probably get it for £2500. Is it worth the hassle?
Or a money pit?

Same bike as I have!
I got mine in 2010 with 2k on it and have taken it round to around 43k now.
I won’t say what problems I haven’t had (for fear of bringing me bad luck) but I did have to replace clutch due to weeping oil seal not in any way due to wear.
Indicator switches have failed a couple of times but repaired with the appropriate microswitches from the states.

Another thread was talking about depreciation costs - haven’t worked mine out but it will be minimal as will yours be on your proposed ride.

It may not be quite as quick as the latest but if someone beats me to the cafe, they’ll have been trying hard and get to pay for the coffee as a reward.

If you’re even slightly handy you will be able to do most of the required servicing duties

My first '04 was an ex-demo bike and needed lots early in its life, including gearbox seals and new Final Drive plus a failed fuel pump controller (all common faults on the early models).

I loved it and only p/x'ed it at 38k for my GSA to get the extra fuel range plus better ABS on later bikes (non-servo).

At the price, providing it is tidy and fault-free, I don't see how you can go wrong. The mileage isn't a worry but condition is important. Owner servicing shouldnt put you off as these are cheap to DIY and piss easy, (compared to being raped at a dealership) plus a good few independent specialists to sort you out if needed.
