After our battle with German traffic a day off the bike was in order; abit of culture in Ljubljana castle..actually very interesting and worth the trip.
Slovenian history is very complex and much of it's big changes relatively recent.
A river trip was good fun and a sighting of a beaver was a bonus....actually you can see them on the Tay if you can't be arsed with German traffic.
Next day back on the bike for a trip to Piran...not even close Neil...
A beautiful old port on the Adriatic. Lots of sightings of beaver here as well...sadly much of it should have stayed under cover.
Very popular and busy...you are supposed to park and ride to ease congestion, but the geezer waved us round the barrier and we found bike parking no bother.

Prior to arriving at Piran we had stopped for a wee donder along a crowded beach. Most of Slovenia decamps to the hills or beaches at weekends in good weather....it was now 34 degrees so the place was stowed out. A swift ride back for cooling beer was in order.

Another fine day in Slovenia saw us ride to the Postojna cave system.
Stunningly awesome huge cave syatem that we only get to see a small part of.
We parked up in a free bit of the car park....the Slovenes go out of their way to accomodate free bike parking more or less everywhere....and toured in...on a wee train.

Original folklore was that they were baby dragons, they are now recognised as Proteus, and there are in fact 6 genetically different populations.

The weather forecast wasn't so good for today so we decided on a tourist type day, and trundled down the dualler towards Lipica.
We passed through a vignette check at a service station....everybody off the motorway, head towards the cop with binos looking at the front of the vehicles, waved through and back on. They had a lot of customers waiting to be dealt with!
Lipica is the stud farm for the Lipizzaner horses, so as an ex rider and hunter, I was keen to see and learn about them. The rest of the party just had to put up with it!

Nothing to do with tight jodhoppers you understand......but there were lots...there was a dressage competition taking place,.....clearly a pastime for the fit and glamorous.
