We’ve just returned from an 850 mile week of camping on our ex Mikeyboy Airheads, absolutely cracking week,Swansea to Peak District, West Yorkshire, up to Tan Hill Inn for one night, then a few days in the lakes and home.
I’ve toured most of Europe in the past on My old 1200 GSA, but this week was easily the best week away I’ve spent on a bike.

Looks fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyed my tour to Germany on my Airhead, hoping to go to IOM later in the summer.

What glorious weather you had for it too. I must get the 80GS out and give her a proper spin, rather than local runs. :thumby:

Off to France on my Mikeyboy rebuilt R100GS next week :)

airhead adventures

Just come back from a ride down to Spa summer classic, Eltz Castle and Nurburgring on my airhead and ran impeccably

Had a ride around the Nurburgring in a ring taxi :bow

It's fantastic to see folks using airheads for proper trips. It's way too easy to discount them as old and therefore no good for longer trips.

I'd prefer to view them as old, therefore simpler, therefore fixable, therefore a pretty sensible choice. Keep it up!

Shall I give you all a giggle ?!
I have been using my Airheads for European trips for many years now. Usually, my '82 R100 or '91 R100GS would have been the steed of choice. They have never left me down or even ever had a glitch. But last year, with infinite wisdom, a '07 R1200R came my way for two-up travel. So this year, for the first time in many years, we done a European trip on something other than an Airhead. The R12R was excellent on the trip: fantastic handling, fantastic brakes and more torque than the USS Enterprise and quite frugal on the fuel end of things.
And then this happened in Bavaria......

All sorted now but only after a rather stiff bill

How much grovelling do I need to do to my old Airheads before the next trip ?!? :blast

Our R100GS took us to Cape Town and beyond back when she was nearly new but still takes us on our summer hols every year even now. I enjoy a quick spin on other more modern bikes (not including the R9T) but the old girl is still a pleasure to ride and own with the added bonus of not quite knowing what she’s going to throw at you next :)

That sums them up,

Lovely photos, we know the area well. Love the bikes

What's the deal with the R9T - good or bad ?

Yeh, sorry, just a bit of bad attitude on my part. To be fair a good engine in a light bike but why is it so stupidly small. I only rode it by mistake but it really annoyed me, looking like an elephant sitting on a flea - no room for a pillion either.

Using my 80ST for work trips at the moment. 95 mile round trip most days. All cross country in Norfolk, B and C roads. (Avoiding the A47 is the goal!).

Always arrive with a smile.:D
