New 998cc 2020 Deauville?

If France still has its motorcycle maximum power limit then a 1000cc tourer would certainly make sense especially if Honda could weave some of the NC750 economy magic into the formula with a big helping of good handling and a better weight profile than the AT which seems crazily heavy for 1000cc adventure bike.

There were plenty of deauville service bikes in Ireland. Police army aa blood bikes. I know 48 is a small amount but Ireland is a small country. I have no figures but the deauville was a very popular bike here. I like them. 100s of people voted with their wallets and bought them. Traded them in for new ones. There is no direct replacement. If you don’t reckon their much fun that’s your call. Not everyone agrees with you and fun is not the yard stick everyone uses when selecting a bike. Think practically weather protection reliably and trade in value. JJH

The Irish army/Garda also used to use Sanglas's.
I understand they used to have a sweepstake on how many of the escort bikes would actually finish a particular escort run :D

So, they hardly have a good record on choice of bikes to use ;)

We had two of them as Blood Bikes. Dull as, was really glad when we moved them on, not many liked to ride them. They much prefer the RTs and FJRs. Panniers were a real pain, the release mechanism failed regularly and we had to fit extra clips on ours to stop them popping open. Not to say a new model if sorted wouldn't be a good bike, but personally wouldn't go near the current offering.

Sanglas 400. I remember seeing them about 50 years ago in the horse show at the RDS. One had ladder mounted on the back which a soldier climbed up into a helicopter. They had a race with the horses using ramps to clear the jumps. Sadly the display team is long disbanded. Those bikes were just as reliable as the triumph 350 and 500 twins of the day. I never seen a Garda on a sanglas. Probably before my time. JJH

Are you suggesting that the deauville or pan is unreliable ? JJH

Am I the only one that can see the picture in the OP? Fucking hell, that has to be the dullest upcoming bikes of all time.

But if your Italian police you buy Guzzi’s, and if French or German you buy BMW’s,

They certainly didn’t sell well enough for Honda, otherwise they would have easily made the NC750 into one,

Hundreds, they sold hundreds?

This is Honda you know, not some miniscule custom bike manufacture, they need to sell hundreds every week, in every country.:nenau

The dullsville I looked after was unreliable, it broke down several times, pushing it up the ramp into the van was no fun either.

I think the owner didn’t mind though, it brought a little excitement into his life :D

I suppose they are ok, if you have only ever ridden dull boring bikes.

The entire new bike market in Ireland is measured in the 100s annually. It’s very small. I’d say second hand imports are bigger. Brexit is going to complicate that. JJH

Should have brought it elsewhere. JJH

He tried that, he took it to Lloyd Honda, but gave up because they could never work out why it would cut out, and show no symptoms when it was in the workshop, and the hourly rate made him wince,

And I used to pick it up without charging the tow in fee.

Honda NC police bike in Austria, they used to have Varaderos/Deauvilles and are supposed to also be getting VFR1200 Crosstourer's in police spec

Sorry that was below the belt. My nephew has one which never ever gets any care at all. Despite his best efforts over the years it somehow keeps going. I know of another one with over 1000000 miles on it 20 stone colleague commutes over 100 mile round trip hail rain or snow doesn’t hang around. He minds it. Loved by curriers. JJH

I never tried the first dullsville model, but I suspect it was the better model, I actually liked the idea of owning one, until I got to work on the 700cc one,

It’s one heavy bike for a 700

The new one could be a great bike, but Honda shouldn’t saddle it with the dullsville image
