Today on the way to Llangollen Motorbike Show we met Paul on an almost immaculate SE model.....
Don’t they just look gorgeous....these lovely old girls, still going strong and not missing a beat....
What a coincidence as the number of 1150 GS you meet these days on the road is getting so much smaller, rare opportunity ....so we stopped at the Raven for a chat.:thumby:

My 1150 GSA "SE" has a silver engine but this one is black. Was engine colour a no cost option from new ?

I understand he had cylinder head covers powder coated in black.....

The silver and red livery is the real icon of the model. Those that know, know!:thumby:

I believe it was a no cost option for a number of years on all 1150GS. I was told that 500 special editions were made in 2005 to mark the end of the 1150 and mark the 25 years since the first ever GS model. 200 went to the USA, 90 came here and I imagine a fair number were sold in Germany and the rest of Europe. I was told only a handfull were released with the black engine ? The cylinder head covers were powder coated black to match the engine and gearbox. I remember seeing an SE when they first came out and thought it looked fantastic in the white with blue detailing. At the time I had a standard black 1150GS. I have not actually seen another with a black engine and gearbox yet. It has a remus and y-piece, has been chipped, extended dash below the clocks with power sockets, ABS removed, K1200RS mirrors, spots, different pegs and gearshift (touratech I think), custom seat which I have lowered, maxton springs and all the other usual ad ons and accesories. Gone back to GS riding for a more relaxed time on the road after a host of stuff that was either going to get me killed or locked up, most recently a now sold MT10. Love the GS and it's a keeper

The owner of the special told us that the previous owner worked at a powder coaters and therefore took the liberty of blackening quite a few bits.
