Anybody know if there are any particular problems buying a bike in Australia for a 6 week trip ?

Plan to buy one in Perth and eventually end up in Melbourne and get friends to sell it.

Government website says overseas visitors can buy vehicles (which I did years ago when working there) but also seems to say to register them you need an address.

Some sites say use a hotel address and some a friends, both are options.

Is there a "foolproof" option as I don't want to buy a bike before I get there only to find I can't register it and have to try to hire a car instead.

I bought my XT660R in Queensland after I sent the GSA back to Blighty. No problems as long as you have a friends address. I did have to go into a local office to do the paperwork and pay the tax on the bike. Don´t forget they pay a 6 monthly or annual rego on all vehicles, the equivalent of our road tax which includes a 3rd party insurance. You´ll have to do a bit of homework on selling in a different State.
