Hi gents, sorry to be a pain again. I'm fitting a touratech tank, and have seen on various forums you don't have to drill the existing tank as TT recommends, but you can use the breather on your original tank a la hot rod welding X tank. Just wondering has anyone done this and maybe have some photos etc. Thanks in advance, steve.

Quite straight forward really, use the original tank air vent to draw fuel from the aux tank, rig a new air vent from the aux tank.
Not done it with TT/Xtank but did it with my home brewed item on the XCountry & it works a treat.

Yes, got it set up like that on one bike, and in process of doing it on another (just waiting for fuel pipe to arrive)

If you need photos let me know; i'll be back on it later this week.

The Touratech high volume tank on my X Challenge (new to me, it was already done) feeds into the standard tank, I believe without drilling into it. I am sure it feeds into the main tank through the fuel line on a T piece and the standard tank breather is fed to the TT breather on the fuel cap. I fill through the TT cap and it fills the standard tank at the same time, right to the brim, hence requiring the extended breather - you cannot open the fuel filler on the standard tank because the fuel will dump out through it. The two taps on the saddles feed into a single line that joins the standard tank...... when I dig a bit deeper I will find out exactly how it was done (Mickey built the bike, but he can't remember!)

Cheers guys, it looks on paper quite straight forward me thinks, what is the fuel line route from tt tank to the existing tank breather ? Someone said up and over headstock to alleviate fuel syphoning when filling ? Anyone has some photos would be great.

Mine comes back from the filler cap, to under the seat and disappears under the bodywork from there..... being new to me I don't know what goes where yet! When it breaks down I will have to start ferreting...

Hi gareth, yes please to a few photos, that would be really helpful, cheers

Okay. Finally on to it. Trimmed plastic panel over air filter housing to fit in front of the TT tank so that the air intake has some protection

Braided fuel hose, secured to keep away from exhaust. Fuel pipe clips yet to arrive so a little work yet to tidy it up

It would start then cut out. Main fuel pipe was pinched by tt bracket, so needed rerouting under the subframe

Cheers Gareth, that's basically what ive done, thanks for the clear pictures. Just waiting on 6 to 8mm straight reducer, as I'm running 8mm pipe and breather is 6mm, slight over sight on my part.

Job done:thumby:
