Has anyone changed from a System 6 to a System 7 helmet? I was just wondering if the sizing is consistent? Local dealer doesn't have my size to try and say that if I order it I have to take it - basically even if it doesn't fit. Crap service I know, but I don't have much choice here.

Yes, and sort of...

It can be a bit tight across the forehead until it beds in, it is stable but slightly noisier and it is a pita to remove the front, incredible hulk thumbs required, and then where do you store it.

The comms system is ok, but prefers connections to other BMW stuff than 3rd party, so no real change from S6Evo then

I have a 6. When I tried a 7, dealer recommended a size larger than normal and from the detailed road test I gave it (5 minutes walking round the shop) he was right...

I have a 58/59 System 6, that size was too tight in a System 7 so I had to go to a 60/61 - that is the larger shell which now doesn't fit in my 49l RT top box. I've never even tried to remove the chin piece. Overall I do like the helmet, although it's just as noisy as the System 6. (I've not tried any others so I have no comparison).

Just FYI, I recently tried a Schuberth C4 Pro for size and I'm 58/59 in that.

You have a couple of choices, since the local dealer is talking BS.

1) Find another dealer.
2) Call BMW UK and ask to speak to their motorcycle clothing buyer/specialist. Ask said specialist why your local dealer does not adhere to BMW UK policy to return if it does not fit when tried in the shop.

Thanks for the feedback

Cheers guys, the general feedback seems to be that it is not worth the risk. I will wait until I am next in the UK and find another dealer with the size I need.
I would buy it from them as well, but airport security isn't too keen on taking helmets onboard.

Beemerboy9: I agree, but to be honest I just want to buy the thing without having the hassle of having to argue about returning it if wrong.

I've never had a problem taking my helmet on board with me, nor wearing my helite vest. I always email and notify in advance.

As a system 7 with blue tooth is around £800 and a RX7GP is £700, the Montreal convention does not cover the value if it is lost, let alone damaged; accordingly my helmet travels with me, not the hold.

On a flight to Monza, I once bought an extra seat just for my leathers/helmet, was only an extra £70.

Airport b*llocks

Even if I could get it through security, then we are only allowed one piece of hand luggage in the cabin...that means that I would have to pay for hold baggage for my carry on...another £40.

We aren't even allowed to take a padel bat in as cabin baggage, which is basically a larger table tennis bat made of foam!!! Litre of gin in a glass bottle??..certainly sir, go right ahead!!

I would tell the dealer to FO and leave a 1 star review on Google and Facebook immediately.

BMW UK might not be overly interested in what a dealer outside the UK is or isn't doing...

You could try BMW South America, or BMW Malaysia, I suppose.

Or order from someone like Helmet City or Sportsbike shop, both of which have a good returns policy (UK mainland anyway) Infinity motorcycles have a free returns policy via UPS but I don't know if that would work with the Channel Islands?
