Fitting an adjustable BMW style voltage regulator on vintage Honda 4’s

I’ve been helping my mate with his vintage CB750 Honda that wasn’t charging. He’d bought a couple of spare old voltage regulators on ebay but all had the same fault, no charge. Now you can easily open these up and they are fully adjustable, we gave it a try but had hit and miss results. What Dave wanted was a nice steady 14v

So he bought an adjustable regulator meant mostly for BMW’s and he wired that in. It works perfectly and the voltage was adjusted to spot on 14v

The important bit of info is what wires go where on the adjustable regulator because the Honda and BMW wiring diagrams don’t compare at all well.

It doesn't matter if it's an adjustable regulator or not, the colours are just the same

The adjustable regulators are readily available from various suppliers,

These are Bosch/BMW’s terminal ID’s

Honda - BMW

Black = Field

White = Positive/Output

Green = Negative/Ground
