Doesn't really matter which one you buy, just go to Currys or the like and pick one that fits your budget. Do the same in a years time as it'll then be running as fast as your dead granny (no offence to your dead granny).

My sister in law did just that. took over 20 minutes to load windoze straight out of the box. Once anythng was put on on it it would not run at all.
So little memory in it it would not work. Fitted more memory and it then just about worked. Typical Curries. Everything bottom spec.

Me: for work I run a Dell Latutude D520 for work with XP Professional and 2tb SSD in it. No anti Virus. Lots of Memory.
WHAT: An obsolete computer and no anti-virus? Yes.
Everything is instantaneous, no windoze shite upgrades, no viruses, because I do not go to football or porn sites and use commonsense.
This last component is in short supply, it would appear.

I have little doubt you will probably purchase something with Windoze 10 on it. If so, do try to get the professional version. That way you can stop windoze filling it with shite. You cannot do so on the lesser versions.

Bought my then 14 year old son a 349.00 Euro Lenovo lappie 2 years ago for Xmas and he uses it for school, watches movies on it, playes games etc. Still going the best! Just get rid of all the commercial shite software they load on it which clogs up any memory it has.

Ps check out Amazon warehouse deals some good offers on there from time to time at great money

Take a look at Dell, either new or their refurbished machines (https://www.dellrefurbished.co.uk/). I've just bought a (new) Inspiron 17" laptop with a smallish 128GB solid state drive for loading Windows and a 1TB drive for pictures, videos etc. I bought an Office 2019 licence from https://fastsoftware.co.uk/ for £30. You receive a legitimate licence key and download the software - so there's nothing physical, just an emailed key code. The total cost has been a little under £800 but I keep my PCs for quite a while so I think this is a reasonable price to pay for something that I will use a lot. My previous laptop was a Sony Vaio, running Win7, which I've been using since 2011. It still works but was getting temperamental, hence the new Dell.

How do they do it so cheaply?
MY lap top had a couple of Windows updates last week and now won't run my 2007 Office. I have the disc and loaded the password only to be told it wasn't a 2013 password (I knew that) but it wouldn't accept it. £30 looks very interesting.

If you tell Win 10 you have a metered internet connection, updates are not downloaded without prior notice.

Oh and Open Office does just about all that Office does.

I'd agree with what you were told. A recent i5 (8th generation so the code will be like i5-8xxx where the x are numbers), 8GB RAM and and 256GB or greater SSD drive. The wife had a dell laptop with 2 of the 3 above. I then went and fitted the SSD and it made a huge difference.

If I was buying now, that's what I'd get. For those specs, expect to pay around €700 but it will do a few years. Thses days I'd actually say the SSD is the most important part.

Just going back to Fastsoftware.com and looking for reviews they get a very bad report on some forums. So just want to check did your licence key work ok ? If so for £30 I'm going to invest.

Yes, worked fine for me. I bought an Office 2013 licence a year or so back for my wife's laptop from the same company and that worked fine too.

Office

I'm running Office 2016 Professional - paid £15.00 from Amazon. It's a one machine copy and can't be transferred to another - but for £15.00....

my employer has a scheme where I can buy MS Office for a tenner but I have had my allocation for this year - do you have access to such a scheme yourself or via a friend/relative? Students can get cheap copies via a school or college. Or see the link above to a vendor

Depends on how up to date you wish to be with this piece of shit.
I bought 2000 off ebay for circa £15.00 new in sealed CD. This earlier and excellent version does not have to be registered or expire.

yep ALMOST being the word, I tried to use it, have to deal with documents formated with Word and not a one displays correctly when opened in open office, its close but it is not AS good or 100 percent compatible
