Brits doing the Route Des Grand Alpes...

Enjoying your trip report brings back memories of mine I did 3 weeks ago. Bloody M20 road round half of Kent trying to find my way into the tunnel then out the other side the A16 exit blocked. I did similar route in as much as Reims first stop Besancon second Annecy for 3 nights next Castellane for 5 nights then Millau for 3 nights and home via Orleans last night had a great time hope you do to.

its pictures can it be that hard,my eyes are killing me. :beerjug:::blast:rob

“You spin me round round round like a record baby”

Dead or Alive (circa 1985) :D

Right i'm back on UK soil now so should be able to post pics properly and finish this ride report...

So day 3 finished and we're into Day 4 which i make as Tuesday last week..

After our first night of camping we woke to a lovely sunrise over the mountains..
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77911971@N06/48742069171/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_5970"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48742069171_a64a556aa4_c.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="IMG_5970"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

After a breakfast of baguettes with ham and cheese made by Jons fair hands we packed up our gear and set off on what was to be a day of contrasts with temperatures ranging from +20 degrees and sunny skies to +2 degrees and snowing!!
One of the first stops of the day was at a resort called Les Saisies, stunning views and expensive coffee (€12 ) for something that was only the size of a thimble..

http://<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77911971@N06/48741747258/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_5973"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48741747258_9e585ef485_c.jpg" width="800" height="600" alt="IMG_5973"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

http://<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77911971@N06/48742251102/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_5975"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48742251102_45b719bf65_c.jpg" width="600" height="800" alt="IMG_5975"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

After riding some stunning roads on one of the Cols near Beaufort (can't remember which one) we arrived at the top and were treated to some stunning views over a lake.. We also met a group of Germans who took delight in highlighting that the Euro flag on our number plates wouldn't be needed soon and that we wanted it!!

http://<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77911971@N06/48742070086/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_5984"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48742070086_20c7b5d8cd_c.jpg" width="800" height="600" alt="IMG_5984"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Always amazes me how many cyclists you see on these routes...

After leaving the passes of Beaufort we headed on towards the ski resorts of Tignes and Val D'isare and then on to the infamous Col D'liseran where the temperature dropped down to 2 degrees and it was snowing... It was somewhere near here in some town in the valley where we met a complete Tosser called 'theoneandonly' (thankfully there is only one)!...

After leaving the freezing temperatures of the Col D'liseran we headed further south through the Vanoise National Park and ended up in a small town called Modane. It was now getting late and we'd already been to 2 campsites that were either closed or non-existent, the weather was starting to rain so we called it a day and decided to find a hotel in Modane and stay there for the night.. Booking.com again came to the rescue and found us a nice 3 bedroom room in the Hotel Le Commerce in the centre of town at a very reasonable rate of €98 for the 3 of us.. We parked the bikes right outside on the pavement and headed in for showers, beer and then out for some food...

I don't have any other pictures of the evenings events but they were full of pizza and bruschetta, the size of which i've never seen before!!!
Needless to say none of us got through the portions and we ended up with take away boxes and full stomachs before hitting the sack..

We're now into day 5 and it Wednesday morning, we decided that breakfast would be on the move and that we'd brew our own coffee before leaving town...

Once coffee was drunk we headed off and the first thing i needed was fuel, we found a station on the edge of town, filled up and off we went. After around 10 miles i had to pull over to take the following 2 photos.....

Couldn't believe the fuel consumption i was getting and i was now into a similar range as i had on my previous GSA... I hear of people claiming to get 300-350 miles out of a GSA but for me realistically i only really achieved between 250 - 270 miles and here i was on a GS with a range of 250 showing!!

Our planned crossing back to blighty was booked for 0955 on Saturday, i needed to get back early as i had planned on flying to Slovakia to see family on the Sunday. We had always planned to stay in a hotel in Calais on the Friday night to avoid any delays or last minute dashes cross country to catch a train. So, today we had decided that by the end of the day we would aim to be near Lake Annecy for lakeside camping which would then give us 2 full days riding to get back to Calais..
