Ok.

So I’ve got two weeks, end of Sept. never done Spain. Don’t even know where to start ( yes yes I’ve looked at all the posts etc).

I’d really appreciate 10 day route ideas please guys, also places that are a must, mountain, regions, amazing roads etc.

My idea of a biking holiday is around 6hrs per day riding.

I’ve got the long slog from Rotterdam first so will be entering from France.

Thanks folks.

Segovia, all rides through Spain must go via Segovia, it's the law.

Failing the suggestion to let RiDE do it all for you, you could do worse than copy this:

You’ll need to arm yourself with a half decent map but, with a bit of imagination, you could create something pretty good.

This has some ideas:

Some idiot posted this up, Lord knows why:

The same idiot created this, which is Spain top to bottom:

I arrive in Bilbao on 19 Sept and return home via Santander on 29 Sept

I have used the Ride guide and Michelin maps for research plus this website is nice https://www.lespyrenees.net/route_des_cols for the French Cols

This is a google map of the N260 and I will ride sections of this: https://goo.gl/maps/ijQcvmrysd72

I'm heading to Sort to begin with via an overnight stop in the Parador at Sos del Rey Católico. Riding mainly scenic roads rather than motorways. After a couple of nights in Sort I might head for Carcassone for another 2 nights, taking 1 day off the bike to roam around the ramparts. Head west on the French Cols and spend 2 nights in Pau, again a day off the bike if my body needs it or a loop south in the mountains. From there, cross back into Spain to stay in Jaca for a couple of nights. Last night is going to be in a Rioja Finca at Entrena before heading to Santander for a late afternoon ferry.

I'll be by myself. PM if your dates overlap and you want to meet up for a beer.

Oh, I have booked hotels but they can all be cancelled for free a few days before arrival and I will be altering the plan if the Pyrenees will be wet or covered in low cloud. That could be any direction but most likely to be Spain or Portugal.

I think first you have to calculate how long it will take you from Rotterdam to the Spanish border. Two days ? Three days ? If the latter that six days of your ten days gone ! So realistically only two days into Spain then turn round and head out for two days !

I’d be tempted to hit the Spanish border dropping over through Andorra into Spain. Lots of nice roads to chose around the Pyrenees , head to Pamplona ?

You could head over the Millau Viaduct and then head over towards the Pyrenees . Plenty to do and see, just need a little more info from yourself , mileage per day etc .

Got 2 weeks in total.
Planning on 2 days each way Spain / Rotterdam, allowing 10 in Spain.
Miles per day in Spain around 250-300 or 5 hours wheels rolling - ish.

That’s better info....I’d agree with Wapping. For a ten day trip into Spain check out the RIDE guide to Spain. You will easily sort some routes of that . I’d be tempted to go over the Millau viaduct then enter Spain along the coastal route to Barcelona. Have a nosey round there , then head inland ,Pyrenees zig zagging between France and Spain to reach the Spanish coast, then head back towards Holland across France .

I would head South West and take in Vosges / GDV / Tran Gorge to southern end of Pyrenees and then ride back up them, that will fill your time quite nicely and leave you a 2 day blast home, or blast out and runt he route the other way around.

As stated if you meander there and back using 3-4 days each way you wont be seeing any of Spain.

TBH from your start point with 10 days to play with I would just head for the Alps.

as Rasher says with only 14 days to play with and a limit of around 6hrs a day i would spend my time in the french alps, maybe a bit of the swiss alps as well, and also germany black forest on the way back. you will not go far wrong with Rashers suggestion.
but if spain is a must then the spanish side of the pyrenees would be my choice.

One of Spain's (and mine, but no longer :blast) best kept secrets is the Júcar gorge and environs in Castilla-La Mancha.

It's well off the beaten track but the roads are empty and fun, the scenery stunning (think Don Quixote and windmills as well as the aforementioned gorge), nobody will speak a word of English and the food is simple, local and lovely. Oh, and people still live in caves ~ have a Google if that appeals as there's a hotel just opened in Alcalá del Júcar (picture below) where you can stay in a cave if you fancy it (not sure about secure parking for bikermates though :nenau).

PS Madrid is a shit hole. Do not go to Madrid :thumb

Salamanca. It has one of the best Plaza Major's in Spain and is a fantastic historic city with an important university.
Having said that, with your time available come to the Alps.
