Hi,

Is there a knack to removing the steering look on an r80? The bikes need for a while (12 months) and now I can't remove the steering lock. I've turned the key all ge way left and jiggled the bars and the lock is still active?

Any advice of how to free it?

Cheers

I'd check but I think the steering lock is down on the head, not in the ignition switch.

Happy to be corrected.

Last time I saw one being removed it was by a BMW specialist before he had the frame powder coated and he was drilling it out.

I believe Kenny means oiling and tapping the lock barrel on the near side of the headstock as Tufty described.

All images of the GS frame I can find show the lock there.

Replacement lock barrels on Motorworks are described as fitting all air cooled twins.

Well it looks like there is still hope.

Firstly because it looks like just a stuck lock that I can (hopefully) WD40 out..

and secondly...(..and this is the kicker!) looks like I was trying to free it from the ignition key barrel and not the head stock barrel...:Oh:doris:doris
