There's three wires, on bmw Satnav cable can someone confirm my suspicions;

Red = +12V
Black = ground
Purple = 12V switched feed.

The 3 wire cable under the headstock is as follows

Red = +12V
Black + Ground
3rd wire (purple??) +10V speed pulse (or could be +5V i cant remember)
