my 2018 r9t pure has tubes fitted (spokes in the center of the wheel) ,when tyres are due to be changed i would like to go tubeless whats entailed and cost ,also handy should i get a puncture an easy plug to get home
cheers guys

Some seal the spokes with sealant, some do not.
3M 4411 tape
3M 5200 sealant

I hope to convert in the spring [V85], but I'm bit nervous about doing the front:eek: Seems easy and I doubt it would prove unreliable.

Many other vids on uTube and there's a company [Otex?]supplying a kit if you'd rather not source independently.

Cleanliness next to godliness....to get this to work.
Windscreen sealant is apparently very effective...according to an AT owner who rides off-road.

I did mine two years ago with marine grade silicone and airtight tape (can't remember 3M or gorilla).
Never lost any pressure and if i get a puncture (not yet) i can plug it.

cheers guys looks a simple enough operation ,also has a good chat with wrinkleyowlie who talked me through the the process on the phone .he has done a few
why on earth would anyone want tubes in a tyre .
thanks again

You're right ,tubed tyres just don't make sense. The 3M tape and sealant gets good results on the 9T forum :beerjug:
Price wise if you go down the R1200R cast wheels route I think my total was about £650 with new tyres.

I do like the spoked wheels but the tubes are heavy,
I initially looked at the outex kits , found a few using the 3 m tape including mr best rest and decided to go that way, it is super strong and sticky stuff,
i did my 9t a year ago using the 3 m single sided tape , didn't use any other sealant, works a treat,
Bought a 5 m roll plenty for 2 layers to resist tyre pinching against the nipple heads when mounting tyres as they drop in the well of the rim,
they are the later wheels which appear to have a cast rim , the spokes are slightly proud on one side didn't grind them just thorough cleaning,

I did my f800GSA. Siliconed spokes and tape. Rear worked. Couldn’t get front to stay up. Kept loosing pressure. Rim didn’t have humps like tubeless has if you know what I mean. JJH

Good point ref rim types jjh,
Fortunately the r9t runs m/t tubeless rims with tubes , so the tyre should stay secure in a deflation,

Here are some photos of my rear wheel with tape applied, 2 layers no additional sealant,
The wheel was easier to manage by having it on the floor on carpet,
Then while sitting hold with feet so that the rim is steady hands free,
If using the 4411n tape i found it easier to work by pulling the backing film off by about a foot,
The tape is more stretchy and formable with no creases or bubbles without the backing ,
I used a buffer wheel to final finish but not 100% neccesary as it forms well with finger pressure,
pre heated the rim with a hot air gun as it was winter just to aid the adhesive,
It has done approx 3000 miles with no pressure loss,
Might be doing a video of another one over winter if i get time,
Roamer

Thanks for posting this. The BART system looks interesting but 4 years warranty makes me wonder ?
It is a shame that BMW uses these stupid 17 inch TUBED spokes.Especially with no centerstand...:(
