Trawling through the various reports and advice previously posted however would appreciate a little more.

Currently planned to ride down to stay near Metz night 1, then into Black Forrest where we have a biker hotel booked for nights 2 & 3 at at recommended biker hostel Pension Williams near Baden Baden not far from the B500 so that we can get a chance to enjoy the area. Any must see and must ride roads recommended in the area?

Will then ride up to Brugges for a 2 night stay to enjoy the delights of Belgium beer, etc...:beerjug:.Anyone have any good tips for a route/good roads from Baden Baden to Brugges?

Many thanks :)

Id go Pirmasens - Trier - Bastogne - Annevoie castle - Waregem - Brugge

Pirmasens is a cute town

Bastogne is well known. The square has secure bike lockers free, just take a Disc Lock. Ideal for de kitting and having a wander out of the square and around town.

Route using almost any yellow road and you wont go far wrong.

In a couple of my RR I mention the 500 and some surrounding towns.

Todtmoos has some lovely roads around it too.

Enjoy.....

Coming from the North the B500 from Baden Baden to Bad Peterstal-Griesbach is a cracking bit of road. Stop into the Mummelsee for a quick break - kinda touristy but still worth it IMO. When we were there during summer of 2018, the traffic really built up as you went south from Wolfach to Triberg - so much traffic it was pretty much impossible to enjoy the twisty stuff.

There's a lovely wee square in Schiltach with some nice cafés - we stopped here for lunch and the grub was great. Pretty little town for a stroll around too...

If you find yourself making it all the way to Schramberg, there's a few great museums there... Check out https://www.auto-und-uhrenwelt.de/de/ and https://www.autosammlung-steim.de/de/willkommen.html for info.

I quite enjoyed bits of the 500 but feel it's over-rated, we took some random roads off it and were in GS heaven. Great deserted twisty roads that we simply followed to see where they went. It seemed that we could pick any twisty road by looking at the map (satnav at a push) and riding it.
Alt try the twisty/winding roads bit of a newer bike satnav.

Bouillon in the Ardennes is about 200 miles from Brugge. Worth considering as a final stop over on your way north.
I recommend the Hotel La Poste. It's in the centre of town with secure parking overlooking the river.

The 25 miles or so from Pension Williams towards Baden is the "Famous" bit, plus a few miles heading the other way from where the Seebach junction meets the B500 - but ride that early, preferably not on a weekend day (but earlier the better in any case) then turn right before Baden on the L78 and put together a nice big loop that will take a slong as you wish to ride. - most are good, the minor ones pretty Much traffic free.

You could do a huge day and loop all the way down to Triberg and beyond in one day, or maybe have a loop to the North of Seebach one day and to the South the next. Triberg is a great place for Lunch, Wolfach is very pretty - as are most towns and villages, or even a day off bike, you will get free public transport, we often get the free trains to Baden and then spend a bit of time I the Caracalla Spa and poke around Baden - also handy for a bad weather backup day.

Not much in the way of food in Seebach, ask David on your arrival and he will help you out, but cracking place for a few nights - say Hi for me.

There are two big sticky threads with loads of GPS friendly routes and other information for the Black Forest. See also the RiDE magazine website.

From this site it is not much of a jump to the Kurvenkoenig website and from there to:

No, I don’t speak foreign either but a map’s a map. Click around in the website, you can’t break it.

As mentioned above, the B500 is undoubtedly a pretty route a good road but its notoriety means it's crowded and (apparently) well policed. There are innumerable good roads in the whole area - the mountains cover a huge area and any road will be interesting.

we did the black forest this year . I spoke directly with Simon Weir through his website, He is an encyclopaedia of info , gave me GPS routes and places to see. Went south from Baden Baden to Wolfach

Will get you started on Baden Baden to Bruges.

As I read it, you have a two night stay at the B&B near the B500. Assuming you arrive in the afternoon of your first night, that gives you one full day in the Black Forest. Is that right? Not least as knowing how long you have available will probably dictate to where and how you ride around in the large area of the Black Forest.

How long have you set aside to ride from Baden Baden to Bruges? I only ask, as that too will (to some degree or another) dictate you return route.

Looks good to me.:okay

Good to read. Also planning same trip but in July with a group of 6. We don't have the channel crossing to contend with as we are all in The Hague but our idea is to head down to just east of Vianden to our usual stop over Hotel Im Goldener Grund (posted a reference a few years back) in Koerperich for day 1. If anyone was considering crossing from Harwich to the Hook of Holland its an easy days ride and great place to stay.
Day 2 to Natzviller in the Alsace area; looking to stay at the Auberge Metzger. Then it starts to get a bit blurry so maybe Wapping has some ideas! Rough plan was to then head down to Todmos / Todnau and find a place there for 2 nights, for day 3. Day 4 ride around the Southern Black Forest (150 - 200 k max) - the example shown Kurvenkonig looks good which I could adapt. Then day 6 and 7 we have to get back to The Hague avoiding the motorways as much as possible. Its the last 2 days return ride I am having real problems with. Any additional tips appreciated. I am trying to keep the day trips to max 275Km per day simply to keep it relaxed.

Head up to Koblenz via the Rhineland Palatinate or swing further east head for Freudenberg near Singen. http://www.fleckerei.de/ is a rustic inn that was popular with the locals.

+1 for Schiltach

....(from) Todmos / Todnau.... we have to get back to The Hague avoiding the motorways as much as possible. Its the last 2 days return ride I am having real problems with. Any additional tips appreciated..

Todnau to The Hague is 730 km (call that 450 miles) direct. Two equally spaced days is 225 miles, which is fine, providing you don’t have to be back in The Hague by say 10 AM on day two of your two day return journey.

Your outward three day journey, The Hague > Vianden > Natzviller > Todnau is near enough a straight line down, which is fine. For the return Todnau to The Hague, I’d maybe look at going over to the west a bit, roughly: Todnau > Epinal > Bar le Duc > Revin and then just bite the bullet and hit the motorway. Something like:

https://kurv.gr/FwBFW

That is 850 km, avoiding motorways, which is 425 km (260 miles) per day on D / N roads, which is OK, depending on what time you fancy departing, stopping etc etc etc. As you’ll maybe do motorway at the end, you could muck about a bit at the start / middle perhaps. But that is up to you and your chums.

I use a rough rule of thumb that 250 miles a day on N / D roads is a pretty decent ride if you have a group; increasing that to 350 miles if you lob in some motorway. Solo, you can do whatever miles you like, down any roads you chose. The other rough rules of thumb I use are:

A. A one litre of tank capacity on a motorbike is about 10 miles. Forgive me for mixing the units

B. An hour earlier departure in the morning, saves about two hours in the afternoon

I cant help with the route planning, but I will throw in an absolutely first class option for a hotel, restaurant and brewery that I found by accident last year. I had a wheel bearing let go, so rode towards the nearest town to find somewhere to wait and phone for recovery. And the first suitable place to come across happened to be the Rothaus Brewery in Grafenhausen, cunningly located just off the B500 near Schluchsee.

https://www.brauereigasthof-rothaus.de

This place is an organic brewery with fantastic beer, and a lovely Gasthof and restaurant. Excellent food, reasonable room rates (I didn't stay in the hotel, but the rooms look good on the website)

Food, beer, brewery tours, B500. A short hop to Switzerland if you want to go that way. What's not to like?
