Hi all,

I'm considering getting a Bell Custom 500 helmet to wear around town on my R NineT Urban G/S.

Has anyone got one? I'm trying to figure out if it'll be possible to fit my Scala Rider Q3 helmet comms to one.

Cheers,

Rob

Yep, got a white one a few months ago. Great on an Airhead (or any naked :eyebrow)
Haven’t tried it but there’s definitely spaces for speakers at the ears. And mounting the unit wouldn’t be any more difficult than a full face I reckon.
But don’t take my word for it, go look at one & try it on. I found it a different ‘shape’ than others & the lining seam presses slightly on my forehead. Must have a look at that sometime.....

Helmet

Hi there, I don't know if you might like one of these as I'm about to advertise a BMW Legend Helmet in Urban colours.
It's a medium size 57/58
I bought it last year for a bike I never bought. I'll inc the goggles in the photo and all for £130 posted. UK

I have worn it only twice so in total circa 100 miles.
Cheers G

That's seriously tempting... Would I get my Scala Rider Q3 and slim 40mm speakers in there do you think?

Hi just at the motorcycle show. I’ll have a look when I’m home tonight. Cheers

I had a Bell Custom 500 but found it very uncomfortable so got rid.

YEP, you have to try them on, I have a small head and the 500 Roland Sands is the one I have got and it is lovely and comfy. The visor they provie with it is pants though, I lost mine within 10 minutes of buying the helmet. I wore it home, looked over my shoulder to check lane change and that was it ripped off, by the time I got off the DCW and went back round it had been run over..... apparently I am not the first to mention the poor visor fitting aspect. I bought a pair of goggles (off here!) and fitted the peak instead, that also needed filing before it would fit, the plastic of the peak hits the helmet long before the popper is anywhere near the stud to fasten it to. I must have filed off 5mm from the inner corners. It is on now though and I love the helmet. It needs a gogle strap retainer though - the new carbon version in chequerboard and gold trim has a goggle strap on it.

As for fitting electronic distractions into your helmet - you are no different to the car or van driver on his phone. I think they should be made illegal. I hd a Scala, i removed it very soon after fitting because I recognised how much of a distraction it was. I now ride in blissful silence save the wind and exhaust notes!

I fitted a cheap eBay bubble visor which is hinged ~ works a treat (see photo below).

The beauty of the Bell lid, IMHO, is that they they have less padding than modern open faces so the shell size is smaller meaning you don't look like some kinda freak with a humungous head when wearing one. For that reason though I'd imagine there is less scope for fitting coms?

I’ve had one, looked good but the fit wasn’t quite right for me.

Switched to a Shoei JO which is a bit more expensive but a better fit for me, and lighter.

I may be taking it, subject to Garry checking some things for me.
See his message posted at 10:54 today. :)

No worries mrjonesybop - I wouldn't step on toes, just giving an option Garry of you don't want it.

Cheers

Hi Guys, just back so as far as fitting speakers it doesn’t have any specific cut outs but the lining is far more substantial than a Bell. I’m not an expert but would think the speakers would have to be thin so as not to rub your ears. I’ll try post photo showing lining thickness. Cheers

PS sorry it’s such a bad photo as it’s sort of deformed and not the correct colour. It’s just the way it’s come out and actually looks way better lol

Pps fwiw I looked as Bell at the show today and they are very basic inside with minimal padding/ lining compared to this which is part leather and very luxurious. I guess it’s whatever suits.
