Day 5

Wake up and shower using lime scale remover and one of those litttle green scrubbing spongy things.

I’m getting full value here.

Plan is to make Alicante by sunset, hopefully watch it from the beach.

I hop onto the wonderful N-330, and start honking south.

It’s 17 deg ish and sunny.

I smell like a cleaners cupboard, bike running fine, forecast is good, hotel already booked.

Let’s chase the sunset ........

A 30 minute. bimble around.

Quick plan suggests making sunset will be a bit tight but shall see.....

As I approach Alicante there’s a tiny bit of cloud to my right.

I’m thinking that this will be a fantastic sunset, so gas it a bit.......

I basically follow sat nav on just map view in town with no route in, looking for a small track leading to the sea.......

Turn down a likely candidate and get lucky, or I think so, I’ll let the photography fans on here judge but as a total iPhone point and shoot merchant I’m well happy.

Now then... where’s that bloody hotel

According to my Nav 5 it’s 200 m behind me in the sea :(

Hotel, food, doss.

It’s the ibis, secure gated parking and spotless. Recommended if you’re passing this way.

Tomorrow’s plan is to visit my mate Dave and his wife who looked after me post illness last year.

Looking forwards to that very much

Ditch the Nav 5. I have had the same in the past. When using the booking.com, select directions directly from the app.

Never had a prob since finding a hotel. NEVER going back to a dedicated satnav!

I use a TomTom Rider which allows you to enter a grid reference, which you can get from Booking.com, for your hotel

Useful in some places where there are no road names or numbers

To be honest......... it all kind of adds to the overall trip.

I’m not so important that 15 mins is going to have a major effect on me.

Plus in fairness, the Nav to me to exactly where I told it to.

It’s the data from the website that’s wrong.

Anyway, onwards. .....

Day 6

It’s really just a case of hosing it west to the hills just north of Malaga.

The weather as I wake out is 24 deg and sunny at 0900.

Sweet

Grab summer gloves, take 1 layer off and I’m gone.

During a pitstop I encounter something very random .....

So the last 20 miles is fab, sun setting and brilliant roads towards Venuela

Andalucia is properly a great biking place

There’s snow on top of Sierra Nevada.

I go past it for about 20 miles, then decide to take a pic in a crap spot

More impressive in real life honest

Arrive at Daves.

It’s so good to see them again.

Properly decent people , to whom I will be forever grateful.

Lovely food and company.

Apparently I’m looking well, at least certainly better than last year.

The plan tomorrow is to ride with Dave past Ronda and up about 50 miles.

Ball park target is the Seville area after a good hoon about first.

Dave is ex police, he’s fast and smooth so I’ll be exploring the 023s tomorrow. So far I’m v impressed.

Sleep and look forward to a great days riding, in Dec !!!!

Great write up. What are you averaging mileage a day?
I think I'm doing it wrong, when I go on a trip Its seems to turn into a race to get from A-B,
Probably due to my crap planning.

Hi Stevie.

Thanks

It varies but on this trip I’d say 250 dependent on terrain.

I’m wide open days such as pushing to Alicante I’ll do 300 maybe, very occasionally the odd 50 on motorway included.

I don’t over plan. I have an idea of things I want to see and places of interest then thread them together with regard to the weather etc etc.

I only book 1 night ahead for this reason, often I don’t book until the day, it always works out.

It doesn’t suit all but I like being able to wake up to a beautiful day and go a fair way, or wake up to minging weather and have a short one.

I have few “hard” RVs.

Visiting a mate and making ferry is about it

Whatever we do it doesn’t matter, as long as it’s dirty side down......

Oh a sneak peak ahead.......
